FEMA Adminstrative officer, Craig Fugate played a visit to Millington, Tennessee to take evaluation of flood sites and damages to last week's storms. Millington suffered high flood waters and caused residents to evaulate their homes. The adminstrator gave advice on filing for FEMA grants, and monetary support. For those needing assistance there will be offices setting up beginning Monday. You'll have to channel across a few steps first, filing with your insurance company, and registering with FEMA even if you feel you may or may not qualify. BRIDGES GET STATE INSPECTIONS

Madison County, TN
State of Tennessee engineers worked all day conducting bridge inspections in Madison County. TDOT conducted tests and evaulated bridge conditions after flooding and storms last weekend. After close observation they found at least 40 bridges will need some kind of restoration. Engineers also cleared debris which is called "channeling" One TDOT inspecter said..."be alert before crossing a bridge that shows signs of dipping or curving."

LeMoyne Owen College received its largest donation ever on Friday, May 07, 2010. The money was part of the estate of one their 1960's graduates WYLODINE PATTON. Ms. Patton passed away recently willing entire estate to her old school in a sum of $478.000 thousand dollars. Robert Lispscomb, held up the check from Ms. Patton and stated that the school was in great need of this donation. Over the past few years the college has been struggling in financial matters. The donation is one of its largest ever received by LeMoyne and could not of have at a much awaited time. More monetary help will channel through donations from Ms. Patton estate is expected later. LeMoyne Owen is one of the oldest Black Colleges in the nation.

MEMPHIS LIGHT, GAS AND WATER IMPLEMENTS ENERGY SAVING PROJECT

MLGW is seeking 1,000 households throughout Shelby County as volunteers to partake in their Smart Grid Project. This project is aimed at saving energy usage in residences. The new digital meters in designed to show homeowners when excessive energy may be wasted. The new equipment will be connected to a website or on an in-home display. Volunteers will use the plan through 2013. Of the 1,000 selected in the test will cost an estimated $1 million. Eventually, if the new digital meters catches on, it would channel meter readers out of their jobs since everything would be reported by computerized operations. Many in the IBEW labor union is opposing this techique.
