The legendary and beautiful actress/jazz singer of stage and screen Lena Horne died on Mother's Day, May 09, 2010 in New York. Lena was 92 years old. Ms. Horne was one of the first of blacks to sing with an all white band, and is known as a milestone to break the barrier of color lines. Ms Horne's life was filled with also supporting civil rights along with social, econmic growth and equality for blacks. She was a national and world figure and supported many organizations promoting change for better living conditions and education of blacks as well. Her professional career spread over a period of 60 years. She was an activist in the NAACP and The Urban Leaque. She won a Tony Award for her musical performance of "The Jazz Singer." Later, she did acting on televison shows appearing on the televison show "Sanford and Son" which often gave Fred Sanford the BIG ONE!
