BLACKER IS SWEETER (363 hits)

If you've ever lived in the rural country or; back in the day you may been familiar with this quote of : "The Blacker the berry, the sweeter its juice." During it's time --this original quote was namely heard among blackberry pickers, at least that's according to how it was passed on by my daddy.

In travelling, It has been referred in reference to sterotype the color of black skin mainly of black women and s*xual satisfaction among men. In the early 20's and 30's or; so perhaps even earilier that this, women of dark skin were once considered the less of the beauty in the female, because lighter skin tones were thought presently as more beautiful. However, when it came to a s*xual involvement, men selected dark skinned women has having best when it came to s*xual intercourse. I feel strongly, it was another way of stero-typing darker women as being only s*x objects. [ I'm thinking of the many dark women and slave masters who abused them seducing them s*xually.]

The quote as far I know; also refers to having another connection. The blacker the skin was noted that the more deeper roots of African/Etiopian blood. Africans and people of Ethiophia were darker, and it meant less mixed hertiage from the white man if your skin was still considerably darker. The darker the skin thus, the more closer you were to having a pure line of African or Ethiophia descent.

Returning back to the blackberry, if you've ever picked them or seen them grow you'll know that the darker black the berry the riper and sweeter the taste. The redder the blacker berry it's more likely to carry a tart or sour flavor. Blackberry pickers and growers still probably use this quote today. I...guess?

Quotes are definately part of my heritage and history, somewhere in the history over the years of quotes from sharecroppers and farmers came:
"The Blacker the berry, the sweeter it's juice."
Family history of quotes vary, but this how my family passed this quote down to me.

"If you prefer tart then you'll pick a redder berry, but when it's a blackberry its sweeter when it's darker" There's a moral value..
"Each of us can make choices of what we select to be and make the best in our life."
My daddy also said..."You got to take the bitter with the sweet."

That's sweet.
