Amid criticisms for lack of dedication, focus, etc. Venus & Serena have achieved the unfathomable: #1 & #2 rankings in the tennis world — 7 years removed from the last time they accomplished that same feat.
Think about those two points for a moment? First, experts lambast them for their interests in things OTHER than tennis, saying if you're going to be #1, you've got to focus and not delve into things like fashion, design or whatever. But they did it their way and look who's talking now?
It's hard enough for ONE person to achieve #1 in the world, but to have TWO sisters achieve it? Amazing. And to be the two best at your sport 7 YEARS APART?
Simply amazing. Oh, and they're soon to be ranked #1 in doubles, too.
And check it: They turned pro a decade and a half ago and counting. That's not unheard of but most athletes who stick around that long are doing just that — sticking around. They're no longer dominant at whatever sport they're in.
