The Queen's Chair: How Can You Help Your Child Learn? (399 hits)

I know school hasn't been out a month, yet. This was something I wanted to include a few months ago and as fate would have it. I cleaned off my desk and found this advice. Thought I would just pass it along.

* Make sure that your child has a full night's sleep each night, so s/he is well rested for school.

* Encourage your child to eat a good breakfast, with a balance of protein and carbohydrates, to fuel the muscles and the brain.

* Organize to meet the next morning's needs in the evening, including planning such appropriate clothing for for weather conditions. Pack up homework and other materials needed for school in book bags or backpacks, ready to go.

* Set appropriate limits for television, video, and computer games. Encourage your son/daughter to read, pursue activities or, outdoor recreational activities.

* Help your child learn how to balance social, sports, extracurricular and other recreational activities which are important for your child's social, emotional, and physical well-being, with the need to put his or her school work first.

* Help your child learn to accept the responsibility for her/his work and success/failures. Don't do homework for your child. Rather help her/him do it for self.
