The Catalyst reports that Chicago schools are not outside the trend of “turnarounds” in US schools as countless districts scramble to take advantage of additional funds available to the bottom 5% of schools in the country.
US Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan has allotted $3.5 billion meant to save or close the “dropout factories” across the country. As the head of Chicago Public Schools, Duncan oversaw the turnaround for many schools in the Chicago school district.
Marshall High School is one of 55 targeted schools in Chicago, which represent almost half of the lowest-performing schools in the state. See a list of the top 100 worst-performing schools throughout the US here
