Replacing the TWIN TOWERS in NEW YORK with a MOSQUE (697 hits)

Rhetoric is heating up on both sides. The African American President is for the Mosque. Islam is spreading like never before; the war in Afghanistan and now the controversy over ground zero. A mosque represents a place of Islamic worship. To place such a structure in New York at the center of an event such as 9/11 brings added meaning to a house to worship the One God. Muslims will have every reason to attend the new mosque and shout "Allah u Akbar" without anything said.

AlHamdullillaah Rabilallameen

Islaam is the worship of The Creator, AlKhalq, Only.

The Creator owns everything in this earth and He alone can decide what happens - not to anybody's desire.

If a Masjid is to built there it will be.

Hatred, arrogance and frustration among us are a disease that eats our good moral values.

Our President Baraka Hussein Obama reads the American Constitution and Bill of Rights--citizens can do anything within the Laws.

Jamal:

Here you are factually incorrect.

"Replacing the TWIN TOWERS in NEW YORK with a MOSQUE ?"

1. The WTC is going up as scheduled--1776 feet high, as planned. It is not being replaced.

2. There is no Mosque under consideration for the WTC site. The planned Islamic Cultural Center is planned for two blocks north. It is a community center with activities for everyone in the community--restaurants, swimming pool, classrooms, theater, art galleries. On its Board of Directors are members of the Clergy of the three major faiths in NY, including Rabbis and Priests. Therefore, this building does not qualify as a Mosque.

And it is not for Muslims alone. It is for everyone.

3. "A mosque represents a place of Islamic worship." True. And there will be a space in the building for Islamic worship. But that is not the purpose of the building.

The purpose of the building is exactly as its name suggewsts--an Islamic Cultural Center.

The Imam consciously modeled it after two existing similar cultural centers here in NY--the YMHA and the YMCA. One was built by Jews, the other by Christians. both are cultural centers where everybody feels welcome and enjoys a wide variety of activities.

That is just how New YOrkers like it. We are in inclusive community. That is why 70% of Manhattan residents support it. And the rest of the nation should butt out.

Richard, 2 blocks north you say......That's close enough......Lets not use the double talk..it is either a mosque or it is not.

A Mosque is a Mosque. If it is something else, then it will be called something else.

Dear Jamal:

"Lets not use the double talk..it is either a mosque or it is not. A Mosque is a Mosque. If it is something else, then it will be called something else."

Let's see what Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf has to say about that. These are his words, published in a column in the New York Daily news, May 26, 2010.

"The project has been mischaracterized, so I want to explain clearly what it would be. Our planned 13-story community center is intended for Park Place between Church St. and West Broadway. It is not a mosque, although it will include a space for Muslim prayer services. It will have a swimming pool, basketball court, meeting rooms, a 500-seat auditorium, banquet facilities and many other things a community needs to be healthy. The center will offer theatrical programming, art exhibitions and cooking classes. These are amenities missing now from this part of the city."

Jamal please note: the Imam clearly said: "IT IS NOT A MOSQUE."

As a matter of fact, the word Mosque does not appear anywhere in his descripttion of the project on his website. The name of the building is CORDOBA HOUSE.

Here is a description, again from Imam Rauf:

"Why the Cordoba House? Cordoba House is a Muslim-led project which will build a world-class facility that promotes tolerance, reflecting the rich diversity of New York City. The center will be community-driven, serving as a platform for inter-community gatherings and cooperation at all levels, providing a space for all New Yorkers to enjoy.

"This proposed project is about promoting integration, tolerance of difference and community cohesion through arts and culture. Cordoba House will provide a place where individuals, regardless of their backgrounds, will find a center of learning, art and culture; and most importantly, a center guided by universal values in their truest form - compassion, generosity, and respect for all.

"The site will contain tremendous amounts of resources that otherwise would not exist in Lower Manhattan; a 500-seat auditorium, swimming pool, art exhibition spaces, bookstores, restaurants - all these services would form a cultural nexus for a region of New York City that, as it continues to grow, requires the sort of hub that Cordoba House will provide."

BOTTOM LINE: People do call it a mosque. But, as Imam Rauf tells us, they are incorrect. It isn't. As one devout Muslim told me personally--"A mosque is devoted to Islamic prayer. If it is designed for other uses it is not a mosque."

You would not call a Catholic Hospital with a chapel a church.

Richard...Perhaps they will call it a community center. I am not privaledged to the Architects plan. And from what I understand, the Imam is not the builder or architect. We will have to see what name appears on the building when completed.

As-Salaam Alaikum Bro. Jamal:

If they build a mosque near Ground Zero, it will be good for all of America. President Obama is right in every sense. In fact, with all the prejudice between Christians and Muslims, I think it will make the step in the right direction for all Muslims in this country. With this mosque being built and the wonderful things the President said I'm sure we as people can come to together better in a country that allows all faiths.
