Jake, the book is out of print, no surprise, but there was one review that was quite informative. And following links I found this book:

Also, for some time I've been reading the historical novels of Patrick O'Brian. These are about the Royal Navy in the early 19th century. He uses authentic words and phrasing of the time, and one of the Scottish officers is referred to as "a black man".

Thanks Jake, let me know how the book is. I'm on a shoestring budget and right now mostly use the library. Our local library often doesn't have the titles I'm looking for. I can try my Alma Mater (West Chester University) or maybe one of the larger libraries in Philly.
