Abandoned by his original father and adopted by his step father at 5, Thomas was unaware that his step-dad was not his natural father. Hearing the grumblings of his aunts, Thomas one day called his mother at work to ask her the truth.
Eric Thomas, rebelling as a teen and into his twenties, was able to turn his life around with the help of a mentor. Although it took Thomas 12 years to get his degree from Michigan State University, Thomas now makes a living by speaking to youth about how they too can turn their life around just like he did.
Ever the preacher, in a depressed economy with 10% unemployment, Thomas encourages those that will listen to pay the price through hard work and sacrifice. Accusing this generation of being “soft”, Eric Thomas the Hip Hop Preacher has set the example by pursuing his PhD. Although it took him 3 times to pass English and 12 years to graduate, Thomas sets himself ahead and apart as an example of what hard work and determination can accomplish.
