I have been living in the 9th ward for all my life. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, my parents and I evacuated to Dallas the day before the storm, that Sunday morning, to stay with relatives. However, some of my other family members decided to stay behind and ride out the storm. I never imagined how disastrous the storm would be. I was of the same thinking as everyone else who left, you evacuate for a few days, come back home, and you're straight.
But I will never forget how the system handled our people during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. They could have easily brought the ships and transportation to the area to make sure that no one was seriously affected by the aftermath of the Hurricane. But George Bush and other folks of the Republican party treated the tax-paying Black families of New Orleans like garbage. He got away with this by blaming the disaster itself instead of the fact that he made the crisis much worse by making it difficult for the people to get vital necessities like food and water, sanitation, and medical care. Many suffered and died unnecessarily as a result.
But notice, they didn’t cause death and suffering by control of the higher elements of nature. His actions during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina did the damage. So we as Black Americans must not only learn like the ant and prepare for the storm but we must also be on the alert of the actions of White America during and after a major crisis such as a natural disaster.

There are strong story lines and discussions about disparities based on race, the failure of the Army Corps of Engineers and the breakdown of local authority in New Orleans — particularly the police. But the most dominant narrative of the Katrina productions is one of rebuilding, reinvention and rebirth.
That's an upbeat story we Americans like to tell about ourselves. But it happens to be an accurate and true one in the wake of Katrina. And none of the five-years-after sagas is more resonant in that regard than Pierce's story of rebuilding the historically black community of Pontchartrain Park.
This is no figurehead job; Pierce is shown working as a real developer — organizing, lobbying, bidding, politicking at City Hall, arranging bank loans and helping to restore old and build new homes.
"I got my parents back into their home a year after the storm — and that's kind of the thing that inspired me to take on this job," Pierce says, acknowledging the enormity of trying to restore, rebuild or replace 350 houses, as well as trying to convince many elderly residents to return to those homes.

I try to use positive thinking to detour the negativity of reality. In my studies of psychology, I have found that Cognitive Therapy helps me to focus on changing my negative core beliefs and to reduce automatic negative thought patterns.

Our having a Black president in office is like when you shoot and kill your enemy...you peoblems doe not end, your problems only begin...we are having a civil rights movenment in reverse...the white people did not fear us at first the same way it seem we now believe we have nothing to fear from them...
we did our movement with guns because they had all of the guns...

Lov, I am fine actually in a way I am happy that the teaparty is winning...you know like winning with things like using our president's book where he talks about his father as campaign isues aand not for now but for 2012 and we are here damned it taking about why can't we unite, why can't we get along, i am a proud black person when they have not one ioda what any of thismeans in teh first place...
