A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition after she fell from her Southfield, Michigan apartment ninth-floor window.
Police are investigating what caused the girl to fall from the balcony at the North Park Place Apartments. Police said the girl managed to push open the window screen before plunging onto a garden off a sidewalk.
Chris Thomas said he was in the lobby when he saw the girl fall. "When I ran outside, there was a 2-year-old baby laying on the ground and her leg was bent backward and she was crying really bad," Thomas said.
Thomas said he saw where the child fell from. "Her three little brothers were standing out of the window looking and we told them to get their parents," Thomas said. In pain, but still conscious, the girl was rushed to Beaumont Hospital, where she is in critical condition.
"All I could do was grab my heart and almost cry because I've never seen anything like this. It was terrible," Thomas said.
Investigators said they spent several hours interviewing family members. A
Beamount Hospital spokesperson says the child suffered broken bones, and it could have been much worse if she hit the concrete. Investigators are trying to figure out if the children were home alone when the 2-year-old fell.
