A woman, Velma Hart, questioned the President about her new reality. She said she was tired of defending him and his administration. I asked some time ago if people of color (black americans) in particular, were ready to suppport the president. I ask that question again are we? President Obama has been in office two years. It appears to me that people especially Our People expected him to creat a turn around over night. Both Bushes were in there eight years each and don't forget about Clintons' eight. What did they do? This mess did not occur over night. Look back to Nixon and Reagen. This mess started when deregulation took the place of accountability. When Reagan dismanteled the unions, accountability went out of the window. Since then, big business and big government has run rampant. Reagan left office with a trillion dollar debt yet, he is considered the greatest president of the 20th century. This country has been sinking in to the gutter every since. Nobody wanted to draw and quarter Reagan and the pardoned Nixon. When will the American public wake up and see this country for what it is. Some people are held accountability for things that have nothing to do with running the government. Who cares who they sleep with and who's under the desk taking care of business? Everybody wants to know when the crime rate got out of hand---it was when Nixon got his pardon. Go Check. if the President can break the law and get away with it, so can anybody else; that became the measuring stick. Where are the socilogist who study these things? Why are they so quiet? As far as I can see, President Obama has done more to correct this mess in the short time he has been in office that some of the others in the whole time they were in office. H--- they were the ones to create this garbage land fill. All of this rhetoric about the President is to set the stage for a one term, admitted Black Man, as president. People of color, DO NOT PLAY INTO THE HANDS OF THE NAYSAYERS, THE HOLD DIGGERS AND THE PEOPLE LIKE BECK, NEWT, SARAH, AND THE LIKE. They don't like us either so why give them rocks to hit him with. Let them find their own rocks and get their little racist babies bring them some. If you can't help, don't hurt. The person who follows him will be the same ilk as Palin, Newt, Beck etc. We are all tired, tired of the whole barrel of lies they have been building since the 70's. We need to get our heads out of the sand and wake up. This is not about parties, this is about who will do the best job for the people who need the help the most. The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. Education in our schools is in the PUBLIC TOILET. I say that because I think most people clean their private toilets once in a while. I am not saying "dont ask questions" Ask them, but give the man a chance. Look at what the job was when he took over. No depression was corrected over night. This financial mess began during Reagan but they called it RECESSION, and how many of those did we have, again, rewriting history. Give the man a chance---Are the soldiers coming home? Is his tax Proposal to help the group who pays the highest taxes? You must remember, congress is made up of the same kind of people who are out here making all of this noise. There are six hundred to one. Who has to say YES? Go figure!

Thomasena, I have two tough, and potentially inflammatory questions. But they are not intended to be so. First, my own statement. I like that we have elected an African American as president. But at the same time, I dislike his policies and leadership. That's all I have to say about that. Now the questions.
1) How much of African Americans' support of President Obama is due to the fact he is an African American, and how much due to his policies and leadership?
2) Why is it the vast majority of African Americans are Democrats?

Irma, but see, if I am White and a Republican, then will I be labeled as just not wanting to see a Black man in the White house? I don't mean me personally, but in general. There seems to be a lot of generalizing on this issue. I can be against Mr. Obama's policies but not against him as an individual. but this seems impossible in the present climate.

The blacks were promised many things after Lincoln. One by one they were led down the garden path by lies and unfulfilled promises. Some of the Presidents covered up with crumbs here and there unitl Calvin Cooledge. There was a full break after his promices. Roosevelt took office after the depression and through his New Deal, captured the rest of them. Blacks have been democrate every since. Because of Roosevelt, the hard line Dixiecrates were ignored and were not allowed to cause too many problems for the Blacks unless they were caught up in a hanging situation. The KKK never stopped riding.
Wilson and Truman made no promices. Up front they let it be know that nothing would change. Then Truman was forced to integrate the armed forces. That was an international move not a "I like Negroes" move. Roosevelt didn't even integrate the armed forcess.
Then Eisenhower got in the white house, and many thought he was going to fix things because of the war and the civil rights fight. He sent the troops (national guard) to Little Rock and Blacks got a little hope from the Republicans and the Dixiecrates(another splinter group) were kept in line.
Then Kennedy was elected and pulled the rest of them back into the democratic party. Johnson, a Texan, signed the civil rights act and that sealed the republican fate. Many democrate fled to the republican party after the election of Kennedy, a Catholic. So much of the dixiecrate feelings went to the republican party too.
And No, blacks for the most part, did not vote for him because he is black. Whites voted for McCain and Palins because they were white. Why is it not okay for Blacks to do the same? I cannot believe that White america wanted Sarah Palins to represent America especially if McCain died. I cannot believe the American people are that stupid or maybe I'm wrong? When this term is up will really tell how the public feels and just haw smart they are. If the present republican front runners and big mouths get in office, we will have more of the garbage we had for the previous eight years.
If Roosevelt had not died, he would have been in office until the end of his term. That is when they put term limits on the office of the Presidency.
My question about whether they were ready to follow a Black President was because of the crabs in a bucket syndrom and based on my past experiences with Blacks supporting blacks. So were you for McCain and Palins' policies and exactly what were they?

There are a number of words used in political jargon that are there to side track the Black voter because of the emotional impact the word carries. and the Big mouths use them to keep the conversation off balance and to confuse the issue. The religious, jargon, ie family values and taking the moral high ground are two just to nme a few. Then there is the race issue. Once these issues are thrown into the pot, the real issues get lost ie. economy, education etc. I forgot freedom of choice.
It was the democratic party or rather the dixiccratic , another name for the democrates just like the tea Pot is for the Republicans, bunch who voted to make slaves, slaves for life. How about those democrates?
Kennedy was rich so where is the consistancy?

Thomasena, there are very few politicians I can support, of whichever party. I voted for Ford (when I first became eligible), for Reagan two terms, Bush Sr. first term. Then I abstained until I voted for Clinton's second term. Since then I have abstained. The reason why is I realized the error of the two party system. I'm not going to vote for the lesser of two evils. The Democrat/Republicans are jointly driving this country to ruin. They just each have their own methodological nuances.
They both got us into these wars. They are not Bush's wars nor Obama's. The American people were clamoring for war. They sat in front of their TV sets and watched the cruise missiles destroy, as if it were an arcade game. Obama didn't inherit the wars from Bush only, he also inherited them from his fellow Democrats. The people are led to support one party or the other, as if politics were merely a football game. The foreign policy is the same. The monetary policy is the same The deficits continue to mount, regardless.
America is an arrogant nation. The rest of the world knows cares nothing for our politics, only our overwhelming and odious presence in other nation's affairs. We pursue our own selfish ends, a United Democrat/Republican Front.
The Health Care debate raged for a year. What should have raged for a year, or for however long it takes, is the healing of our inner cities. This is where the emphasis needs to be, regardless who is president. The ashes of slavery lie in our inner cities, and there they lie still. It is this economic reality that divides the nation, not the democrat vs. republican.

Regarding the garbage of the past eight years, I agree. I hate George Jr. always have. I don't hate Obama, but his "fixes" are not fixes at all. We are already seeing the inflation as the result of the policy of printing worthless currency. The Fed is still a secret organization. We are still in two wars, with a third looming. We still are in something like 170 sovereign nations. Cyber terrorism is on the way, read my post on the Stuxnet Worm. And worse can be imagined. And the ashes still lie in the inner cities.

Irma, I understand your first reply. But look at how Thomasena phrased the question. No disrespect at all to Thomasena. But the question was phrased in terms of Black Americans support for the President. It was all of America that voted him President. And it is all of America that will reelect him, or not.
I understand your feelings on the unity of the Black Race. But why do you continue to use a word that was invented by the slavemaster? The ashes lie still in the inner cities and elsewhere. When they are finally swept up, and our disadvantaged and divided population healed and united, maybe then we can give up the words race, black, white. But it is not happening under this administration, nor will it until we see that the division is maintained by our separation into the two camps, the republicans and the democrats. Both parties will fight tooth and nail to maintain this illusion of either/or is our only choice.

Robert, the thing that stuck out in my mind when I heard here was that her concern is for the middle class. My concern is for those at the bottom of the ladder. She is CFO, what does she have to worry about? But when an honor student goes to school and gets murdered with a 2 by 4, that apparently is not something that concerns her more than she may lose some income, house, whatever.

Adam, It will NOT be taught in the schools unless you , Robert, or i teach it. Oh, Irma too. I also agree with you on most points. I directed the questions to those so called "Blacks" because of the tendency for them to play crabs in a bucket. It was some of them who asked the question "Is he blacck enough?" That didn't come from a so called "White Person".
It has been apart of "Black History" to turn on the leaders and ask the "White Man" if what he said ws right. The white man's bread was fresher than the "Colored man's" bred and all of the bread came off of the same truck.
I went all the way back to Kennedy and Johnson. Even Coolage and Roosevelt. No this did not just hppen under Bush. BUT, he did nothing about it. He added to it.

I use the word for clarity. sometimes. I prefer Americans of Color if i have to designate because I am an American first, who happens to be many things. And if culture designates who we are I am even more than that because I embrace all cultures including Russian.

AMEN TO THAT!!!
I read just this morning that some Democratic analysts say that Ms. Hart confronting President Obama so directly was exactly what he needed. It shows that he does not encircle himself in the Washington bubble, that he is well aware of the misery some of our fellow citizens are experiencing--and he does not allow himself to attend scripted events like his predecessor.
In 1982 when Ronald Reagan faced his first midterm election, his popularity was just about where Obama's is now. The country was in the middle of a recession that he blamed on the previous administration. His whole campaign was "stay the course and give us a chance to get us out of this mess that I inherited."
He was able to rebound successfully.
I have a hard time believing that many Americans would want to return to the same policies that got us into this mess.
As the Republican House Leader said when they introduced their new program for America, which was nothing but their old favorite talking points, "The Republicans are not going to be anything but what they have always been."
That comment should be played and replayed and broadcast on every TV station for the next few weeks. The voters need to be reminded about how we found ourselves where we are.
The Democrats have plenty of positive achievements they can remind the voters of. At least they are working to devise law to make life better for average people.
Hopefully, voters will see what is going on.

I wasn't critizing Ms. Hart but wanted the rest to think bfore they jumped on band wagon that was not there. See, I know that "they" have a habit of stop listening when certain words are mentioned: as a result, they miss the good part and go off half cocked.
I am one who ask questions to get to a particular issue. There is an excellent report card on HBCUCONNECT.COM posted by Rickey Johnson.
I also know that the far right will jump on what Ms. Hart said with 20 feet to drive a wedge if they can.
I don't think some of the distractors know what the past policies were; they are just looking at color or wanting some to think they are to create this discord. The more issues, important or not, that the president has to face, the less effective he will be , they HOPE.
