Here’s the video of Bishop Eddie Long from Sunday, October 3, 2010, speaking to his New Birth congregation and visitors.
We’ve heard about Bishop Long talking about not getting into a street fight, and how the verse of Job “accidentally” popped up that read: “Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked will be no more.”
But that accident was the Holy Ghost, said Long.
“And since that little Scripture popped up, I want to say this in line with that,” Bishop Long said. “I will let no man be so powerful in my life, to force me to hate him. Nobody.”
Eddie Long then continued what some are thinking is an amazing display of hubris who watch the video and comment beneath the video on YouTube.
“I've got to stand here as a living demonstration to love like Him. I'm not gonna be pulled into a street fight,” Long told New Birth and, thanks to YouTube, the world.
I will not let anybody dictate how to forgive, he said after quoting what some call the Lord’s prayer – what other’s call a model prayer.
“There's an abundance of wisdom from God. If you want to accelerate now your future, where God is taking you, where God is taking us...” Bishop Eddie Long then stopped to acknowledge a group in the crowd he said he was glad were there, and promised New Birth would still support them.
“New Birth is gonna do everything God ordains,” he said.
“I went to the movies the other day because I said, 'I ain't gon' stop living.',” Long continued. “I went to see Wall Street.”
Bishop Long described how the Chinese in the movie said they don’t make decisions based on only 10 or 20 years of outcome, but based on 100 years.
“Stop making short-term declarations. Count your children, your great-grandchildren. Affirm!” Long yelled, to which I wondered: How are your actions, Eddie Long, gonna affect your brood?
“Mama spoke it, and it's already happening. It is going down. Sir, you find yourself a quiet place, and then make some noise. Watch the heaviness start to get off you,” he said.
“The only reason people consider suicide, because they can't see a way out,” he said, which led me to believe he’s though about it. I pray he doesn’t do this.
“I need everybody at the altar. I still declare you're great people, doing a great work, and we won't come down off the wall. I see you in overflow,” Long said, trying to encourage his people.
“It ain't about stuff. I said there'd be a time that the world would come look at us,” said Bishop Eddie, kind of laughing at the irony, and wobbling in his walk.
“The moves you make now will determine how the lost see us. Will they want to be a part of us?” he asked.
The whole time I couldn’t help but wonder why he isn’t asking himself these questions.
Perhaps he is.
