The Queen's Chair : The Real World Is An Extension of High School (569 hits)

Think about it? We trade in one high school for another. High school to college. College to the real world. The playing field just isn't as level.

There are the popular people: managers. Maintenance workers are treated like slackers are underachievers. The world's snobs are the rich kids. The worker bees are nice, average people who get into little or no problem. The football players are construction workers. The cheerleaders are the pretty female workers who bat their eyes and get away with stuff. Get the idea.

Since I graduated from school, I've just noticed that I've had to trade one group of people in for another. I've had to deal with new work cultures in a very conservative town. I've listened to managers tell me how they can't find "qualified workers" who are people of culture. However, the under qualified sibling always seems to get a big job, but has no formal training or education.

Notice how only certain people hear about specific opportunities? And how come certain women become obsessed with getting to know your business? Friendship or sabotage?

The problem with high school is that all the rules we are taught somehow don't apply in the real world. People don't treat others, they would like to be treated.
They forget to say please, thanks, have a nice day, let alone thank you. If you lose money it is not returned. Prayer is forbidden in school... we won't even talk about cheating or respecting/honoring your mother and father. Many people think crime does pay and honesty is for suckers.

Diversity, honesty, compassion, manners, charity... all these things should have VALUE in the real world. However it doesn't. Corporate sees all these things as weakness in employees. Co-workers "double dog dare" each other day trying to get recognition from the boss. Who has the biggest office? Who got noticed today? How much work gets accomplished? Most people spend half their wakening life at work. If adults could remember everything they were taught in kindergarten, this would be such a better place.

Sister Marsha,
Your blogs are always so refreshing to read! Honestly you are so right about the real world being an extension of college except without a level playing field. People can be so trifling at times, but hey as long as I don't forget the rules I learned in kindergarten I'd say that life is worth it regardless to what those "crazies" out there do.

Thanks, Jen. Right now I need a nap. Thank God, I learned that in kindergarten. :)
