A survey was done recently and 1,000 women were asked if they had a few extra hours of free time what we do with it. My answer...sleep. Apparently, 1,000 women agreed with me.
With all the stuff I do for my family; I could use a power nap. Grabbing a few moments of sleep for myself. Why wouldn't I? I get tired thinking about it. I rarely sit down and we won't talk about the sentences that start: "Mommy, can I ask you a question?", "Mom., I don't understand this", "Mom, I need help" and my favorite: "Mom, can I talk to you for a minute". (Cause that question is usually about 30 minutes and always happens during a favorite TV show or when I carve out reading time.)
The first four years of my life, I was sleep deprived with one child; then it doubled to two. Staying up late nights with our daughters, while my hubbie slept (I swear how can you NOT hear a baby wail?) Trips in the middle of the night for diapers, high fevers, colic, croup, and I still had to get up for work the next day. Hated it!!!!
I don't know what's harder being a stay-at-home mom or a working mom? I've done both. They both have their challenges. With women being the head of households these day, sleep is our fuel of choice. All I know is that we need it...we are addicted.
If we don't get our energy that way, we drink coffee or energy drinks. We aren't really approachable until we have the first cup. ( lolol) For those of us that drink that stuff.
It's amazing when we are sick, you notice our value because things at the house come to a standstill. Sink full of dishes, carpet not cleaned and dinner at 5 p.m. So people, if you see your mom, wife, daughter at rest...think about the movie, Gremlins. Just let us sleep and feed us when we ask you.
