The Queen's Chair: Juan Williams Leaves NPR and Signs With Fox News (315 hits)

Journalist Juan Williams in now $2 million dollars happier and richer at Fox News. I'm sure he's delighted. NPR's harsh firing of the veteran journalist tells me something about the station, but also Williams too. NPR fired him because he supposedly gave his opinion about a story when he was on Fox News. Since when is a one-line sentence an opinion.

Sorry, folks. Bill O'Reilly asked him one question. If he had given at least four or five lines: I'd agree with NPR. Williams basically said that he is uncomfortable to fly with Muslims. I personally think NPR was looking for a reason to get rid of him.

Not even 24 hours later, O'Reilly had the good sense to hire him, offer him the two-million dollar paycheck, and NPR had to issue a bogus statement about how they handled the whole thing badly. Ummm, no kidding. I respect their no personal opinion policy rule. I understand about reporting the news objectively. However, if they so-called handled this so badly and wanted Williams to stay, they would have fixed it. They didn't want to. Williams has his own fan base and O'Reilly was smart enough to know that and jump on a golden opportunity.

Williams roughly gets about $30,000 a week to work one day and do his own thing. Guaranteed for three years. O'Reilly just got a whole new listenership for his show and NPR has egg all over their face. Williams may have sold out, but at least he is getting paid. Hopefully, they can hang on to Travis Smiley.
