Mr. Canada hit the nail on the head. Instead of waiting for a savior, we need to save ourselves. Most educational systems have not kept up with the times nor have they taken into consideration the changes in the community that inpact the citizens and especially the children.
Expectations in the school are low. Many teachers do not expect them to learn so why use all of that energy trying to teach them.
Most educators know that everybody is not college material. So, if the schools provide a college preparitory program, and a large portion of the population will not be prepared for the high tech future, and the skill jobs have been sent over sea so where does that leave those who cannot be successful in college, especially if public education does not and will not prepare them for college?
We spend too much time on excues. We did better 100 years ago when we did have an excuse. We need to take charge of our own education. What makes us think that the preditor and the bandit will tell the truth about anything. And here we are like birds in a nest with oue mouths open waiting to be fed.
Poverty has always been a part of some communities, most in fact. Black America has educated more poor people than anybody else. Booket T. Washington, George Washington Carver, Frederick Douglass, Maggie Lena Walker, Madam C. J. Walker, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Oprah Winfrey just to name a few.
Values and independent spirit has disappeared from our community. The gimmie generation has taken over and we who know better are allowing it. Accepting the message sent to us that we are poor and cannot do any better because he won't let us and because we are poor is a cop out. We spend too much time on excuses. We need to take charge of our own education and our livelihood. Excuses and a lack of productivity are cement cinder blocks on our feet.
If you have not seen the movie "Waiting For Superman", you need to. There is a clear message for those of us who buy into the excuses fed us by the bandits. And you will get some insight into how the government controls what the schools do and how they have a strangle hold on the evolution of a modern system. America use to be the country that educated the world. What happened and when did it occur?
