The depression of 1929 put what few black Americans was working, out of work. The Marcus Garvey UNIA movement had waned and blacks were looking for guidance. Elijah Muhammad begin preaching a message of self help, independance and deliverance. It was Islam coming to America in a big way. Referred as the Nation of Islam, it was similar to Islam as practiced in the East but with clear differances related to history of caucasian, history of blacks and definition of God's purpose. A revolutionary in scope that included diet, women training, men training and entrepreneurship. Not sure what Elijah Muhammad did on the weekends, I did not care. Not sure, whether he took a shot of whisky every now and then, I did not care. Not sure, whether he had any extramarital relationships, I did not care. What mattered to me is what he done. Muslim temples spanned across the country. A newspaper, banks, schools, grocery stores, bakeries, delivery trucks, factories, restaurants, airplanes, books, albums, communication networks, school buses and a non military army. Black women that the entire race could be proud. Then, there was the FOI, the fruit of Islam..an army of black men clean cut, sharp as a tack, on every major street corner in America selling the Muhammad Speaks Newspaper. Blacks of all religion marveled at the nation of Islam and what they were doing to clean up the drug addicts, winos, prostitutes, criminals and social misfits among our race. It was the EFFECT of the teachings of Elijah Muhammad which was important to me. In short, waiting for any black man to just come close to the many accomplishments of Elijah Muhammad would be hard pressed. He raised Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Joe Tex and more. Over 1 million supporters and followers were behind this man of God. It is works that spark my attention about any man and on the matter of WORKS, Elijah Muhammad was one of the greatest man of the 20th Century.

Because most of the Family of Elijah Muhammad today are believers in AlQur'aan and the Sunnah of Mohamed(as).
And many other Americans have followed his Family and accepted the Way of Life that Allaah asks the Family of Adaam.

Hello to All,
I believe that what you all are marveling over is the business empire that Elijah build with poor Black people's money, am I right.
For instance, when Elijah started out Black Americans were poor and a subjugated people in White America, am I right. It has been 35 years now since Elijah has passed and Black Americans are still poor and a subjugated people in White America, right?
So, what is it that you ignorant Negroes marveling over, except that Elijah took our money and made himself rich since we are still poor and subjugated in White America.
Black Americans need a genuine prophet as Moses was to the children of Israel who would need Black Americans into sovereignty on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders to pursue life, liberty, happiness and prosperity in our own way. Am I making any sense with you all? I am Black America's first genuine prophet. In God has inspired me to know that our only permanent solution is that we desire to become a sovereign people on a portion of this continent. I do not have to get you all to say me your monies so I could buy farmlands and airplanes. Black Americans need sincere sovereignty without games and fanfare, okay.
Today Mr. Farrakhan is doing the same thing to our poor Black people as he Elijah did, am I right.

Harry, Min. Farrakhan is fulfilling prophecy. The Minister is the modern day Aaron just like Elijah was the modern day Moses. Both men shared with us that everything that is happening in both the Bible and Quran is to give us a clear sign of what is happening today. They taught that the Gentiles will drag these politicians by their cars when they find out that they got the pie and didn't share it with them.
If you look at it now that's what's happening. We are living in a great and dreadful time and it will only be dreadful if you don't remember the plan of God. It is great for all of us who keep in mind the Message.

I remember as a little boy going to Saviors Day in Chicago to hear live this man, Elijah Muhammad speak. It was so stunning, that would put all these Christian preachers too shame. He would have guest ministers speak, then he would speak. It was a sight to behold how this man, small in stature; small in education could unify, dignify and motivate so many once degraded black Americans. It is that which made the differance in my life. Sure his message is controversial..this blog is about his works, his deeds, his dedication and his convictions. If you check his record; ok he went to prison for during vietnam war to remove from the scene. Was Muhammad ever convicted of child abuse; NO. Was Muhammad ever convicted in a court of law for anything indecent; NO...So all they can say is heresay. Forget their hearsay and conjecture. Bring the court papers justifying their evil accusation so I don't give a care. It was the works of Messenger Elijah Muhammad that was the main thing. If he squeezed the rear end of some of his secretaries, I DON"T CARE. He cleaned up the neighborhoods and converted deadbeats to be respectable citizens capable of holding jobs and raising their families.

this blog is about Elijah Muhammad and that's it. No one else. Get it. Elijah Muhammad was about to demonstrate what COULD be done with a bunch of made slaves, designed by our slavemasters to be triflent, lazy, shifless, jive and without purpose. He cleaned up the drug addicts and took women off the street corner. Through the sales of Muhammad Speaks, it provided income to those without money coming in. His teachings instilled values to a people considered worthless. To this alone, no one in this century today has come close.

I agree. Now, people like Robert can use technicalities in interpreting whether Minister Farrakhan was or was not instrumental in the resurrection of the NOI after Elijah Muhammad passed. I, however, consider Minister Farrakhan an instrument of Allah and will not show ungratitude for his efforts.
Minister Farrakhan has been the ONLY one who raised the question, "Is It Possible That The Honorable Elijah Muhammad Is Physically Alive?" We answered him as scientist would, YES it is possible. Now proving it is another thing.
However, I understood that if in fact The Honorable Elijah Muhammad was dead, then I would need to look for another because the dead can not help the living. But I truly know that The Messenger escaped death, (note I did not say arose from the dead because once you are dead you're dead). Therefore, I served a LIVING GOD and not a dead one.
Those who claim they are following a dead Hon. Elijah Muhammad just as well could follow a dead Jesus. However, we have been throughly instructed, "... speak not of those slain in the way of Allah as dead, they live though you perceive not."
