And despite the fact that all previous START treaties were approved without controversy, the Republican leadership is holding this up and may defeat it.

Why is that??

Richard, they are doing it just because they can. it's not about the safety or concern for the country, it's about allowing the president any victories.

Rightfully said, and that's why I'm glad the president is pushing these things through the lame duck, because when the GOP get control it going to be a stallmate for the next 2 years. He's even staying behind from vacation to get these things done. Shows you how much interest he has in the American people and getting things done for this country. You Go Mr. President!

What about the GOP? They don't want to stay in Washington any longer and miss out on Christmas and New Years' holidays so they are eager to push legislation through as well.

What they want to do is suspend everthing until the New Years when they would have more control, as it is now, they can't stop the dems from getting this stuff done, which is why I don't understand how they could stop the dream act bill from being passed. Now I've got to go investigate that, unless someone can tell me. You probably know why Brotha Richard. Those people suffering from 9-11 need that help and they need it now!

They don't have much longer Brotha Clark. Question? What can the Dems do after the new year when they are no longer in control and are now the minority? I know we've got a fight on our hands over the next 2 years, but do you think people are going to get it, or are they going to blame the president for not getting anything done, and what can the people do other than vote and sign petitions to get things done?

I have mixed thoughts about the 911 responders. Chances are they're already collecting some type of disability funds now. Are they requesting moneytary compensation like the ones that families were killed?
As for the Dream Act, personnaly I amnot for it. I see it as a backdoor to letting the entire family in the country. We cannot start rewarding illegal behavior. Sure the children are not responsible for their parents actions but they are the product of it. i was on the bus here in Boston a few days ago and saw this woman(not sure of her native country, but she was not Hispanic) with six children from a baby in the stroller, one holding on the stroller, the other ones right in tow. Someone asked about the husband/father....she said he got deported. Since the children were born here, they let her stay to be with them. Who do you think is picking up the expenses of this family of seven......American tax payers. This is just one example.

@Sista Dorothy, even if the 911 responders were getting disability, it doesn’t even began to cover expenses of those men’s medical problems from inhaling that dust at 911. What’s more they deserve to be taken care of. They didn’t hesitate to rescue and sustain, we shouldn’t hesitate to take care of them now. It’s a heck of a lot better than giving the rich tax breaks, they don’t need. It’s the same thing the country did for the Vets. Why should a vet be homeless? No reason whatsoever, but for a non-caring government, that’s just what they are. I watch these vets everyday at the VA, some so young it breaks your heart. The 911 responders are no different, except they fought a different war, a different way, all on American soil.
A lot of those illegal’s as we call them, work harder than you and I. They do jobs the average American would not do to support their families. The Dream Act is no free ride. It requires that you had to have been in the US at least 5 years prior to the Act being instituted. It requires them not to have a record, attend at least 2 years in the military or obtain a degree in college prior to obtaining legal citizenship. I don’t think that is asking too much to become legal in the US. I don’t know the woman’s status you came into contact with, but I wouldn’t judge her based on her children. There are legal, black women right here in the US who have 5 or 6 kids, no husbands and guess who’s taking care of them, so I can’t judge her circumstances.
@ Brotha Clark, I just hope they wake up over the next 2 years. Maybe they can gather the cojonas like the Dems are doing in the lame duck right now. You’re right, it doesn’t seem they have made their voices heard. They’ve haven’t been outspoken enough and done what it takes to get the job done. They’ve been too busy on the defensive instead of posting up and stating what they did do. Its time for us to filibuster some stuff.
