Why are so many of our children of color (especially our boys) not going to college? Why do some kids automatically go to college while others never even think about it as an option?

am a total loss why our young men of color aren't interested in college. I've polled a few young men in my family and in my neighborhood...and these are a few of their reasons...
College doesn't really help us because too many of us never find or get equal jobs as white males.
I never wanted college because I see it as it's a big waste of time.
I'm sick and tired of school...I've always hated it!
Nobody really cares about going to college, too many times doesn't help...if you can't find a job when you graduate from college.
Going to college doesn't make you successful and neither does not going make you successful either.
It's too much of a hassle to get in college and the cost is way over my budget. Even with financial aid the cost is way too expensive.
These poll answers came from 10 males in my own family and males in my neighborhood...
Only about 2 out of 6 are attending college. 2 work part time jobs, 3 sell drugs and 3 do nothing all day. All were living at home and encouraged to attend college.
Although my poll is not based on a national poll, in general I found these reasons are some of common responses in most males.
What do you suggest we do to change young minds to get a higher education?

I think the reason for this is because a lot of our black children of today have low self esteem...they have become belivers of the lies and tactics that society uses against them and they feel it's a struggle for them to compete with the Whites, Asians and Hispanics who may or may not have a better college education.
A proper upbringing and a knowledge of OUR culture (the ones who paved the way for us) will help these children keep their feet strongly planted and their path clearly outlined when society and television try to make them feel they are less than what they are.

Great suggestion Siebra...We do have to keep at it to encourage our males. Somehow, they are losing interest in higher education. We have to keep hammering at it "So to speak" never letting or giving up on them.

i pose this question because i see a lot of young black men dont see the importance of being educated its like they dont get it and most of all the high school drop out rate is off the hook and a whole generation is falling and will end up failing !
what happens next is prison and death ! it seems that the black leadership will be placed in the white-mans hands because of lack of knowledge ! shame !!!

Many young men have suffered and are sufferers of disparity. There is always hope. I have witnessed successful events of such men who have traveled a off course, but found that they still were not failers. Everyone can be a mentor. . . we must use encouragement to them so they can find their lives have purpose.
Thanks for reminding us to keep trying. It's never enough to try.

that is the truth we need to keep our youth encouraged at all cost because really without hope where would they be how would they make it if they dont remember the words of encouragement or believe in them self ,things are tight right now and every one is looking for a way to ease the struggle of just everyday life just to have food on the table a our youth are looking at there option and there are not too many we have to keep reminding them that they can do it they can make it sometimes that is the only positive voice they hear .
