Stillman Art Instructor's Work to be Showcased at DeLuce Art Gallery in Missouri (2950 hits)

Keyser Wilson's painting "Remnants" has been selected for display in a national juried exhibition, entitled EPHEMERA, at Olive DeLuce Art Gallery at Northwest Missouri State University, in Maryville, Mo., from February 14 until March 18, 2011.

Wilson explained, "The painting has two panels, so it works like a diptych. It is an abstraction of a still life. The imagery on the left side of the canvas is dissolving while the right side's forms remain."

"I have feelings that I want to express and see in pictorial form on the canvas. I use abstract imagery to translate these ideas," she continued.

Laura Kukkee, Assistant Professor of Art at Northwest Missouri State University said, "Out of 136 artists, 387 pieces were submitted to the competition. Our juror, Dan Keegan, Director of the Milwaukee Art Museum, carefully selected 48 works to be included in the exhibition. The competition was strong, and we are happy to invite Ms. Wilson to participate in the exhibition."

Wilson is a Birmingham, Ala., native, who graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a B.F.A. in painting, and a minor in art history. She then went on to receive her M.F.A. from the University of Alabama. She has taught studio art at Stillman since 1988. She also teaches courses in drawing, painting, design and photography at Stillman.
