Yo, Black As

if Black is black.

Black as the darkness that clouds don’t rain, black as the mood that survives the hurt…
black as the ground that composes the earth.
Black like the hearts that guide the flesh Black like the violence that causes us to hate…
black like me, black like the words oh say can you see...

can you see…can you see black is the name I’ve learned to call me.
Black is truth…Black is a plague nicknamed by those whose prosperity was made…
with black…
In hopes you would believe…you could never get back.
To the black. Black is not lies black is not bad.

Black is not forgetting that you built that they have…
that you have…
because black is not just a word…
it’s not what you really see Black is disguised in the family tree…
America your heart must recognized me.

Closet cousins from Uncle Sams loins .
As I step to the background of all that we are.
Leaders in life, builders of cars,
Presidents of countries, bosses and Czars
Original holders of faith and trust Ebony kings and Queens who came before us.
Doctors and Teachers care takers of hope.
Every aspect of humanity… Every ounce of life grew from the blackness…
even the God in you…
The people of whom all of scholars have wrote. They don’t want to acknowledge me…
Because...Black is the colour that sets us all free.
The peace that comes when you close your eyes…
Release into the darkness from which sprung their lies…
That black was a curse…for in this mans world no one is treated worse.
Black, yet still I strive, still I dream…because to be black is my fate…

How?

How can I describe what it is to be black Its more than a word and much more than how I act.
Yet let me try to put into words the life that we live in this mans world.
I try…

Then maybe you see Black is the colour they refer to me.
Black the skin that covers my
frame… Black is not my essence…
Black is what you don’t wanna see…
Because the black in you…
Can come out in…
me.
