The Queen's Chair: Planned Parenthood May Lose Funding (702 hits)

So much for women's health care. Planned Parenthood might loose $300,000 in funding if the GOP has its way. The big discussion has divide America pro lifers and the naysayers. Not one dollar goes to fund abortions, but the naysayers are putting that as to why they want to shut the organization down.

Part of Planned Parenthood's problem is that many naysayers don't understand the organization's mission. Abortion is only one of the many services that it offers. Planned Parenthood offers birth control services, cancer screenings, education, counseling, family planning services, pap smears, counseling, rape crisis services, screening for s*xually transmitted diseases/s*xually transmitted infections, breast exams and a teen education clinic. The fact that Planned Parenthood offers abortion makes it a lightning rod for critics.

I guess the thing that is really irking me is that a bunch of men are trying to tell women what they can and can't do. Frankly, it's none of their business. it would be like me telling you what to have done at your dentist office. It doesn't make sense.

This agency helps low income women to address health issues and concerns; they might otherwise ignore. They don't have to worry about costs. Planned Parenthood
has a sliding scale. The truth is that Planned Parenthood doesn't and can't use federal funds for abortion. The truth doesn't matter to the GOP. They are just using every trick and are determined to shut down PP one way or another.

If they do this, I'm scared another practice may come back. Women already put themselves last when it comes to their health and family needs. We may see the rise in back alley abortions. Or coat hangers may come back in style. We may see more women die in childhood. Who knows.

Denying access is not going to help anything. Abortion is legal in New York State and why does the GOP have to turn a woman's health issue into something political? It's not right. As a mom, my daughters should have access to this service, if they want or need it. Lets support Planned Parenthood and keep abortion legal.

Honestly this is a doubled edged sword. I benefited from Planned ParentHood services as a young girl with their birth control, health screenings, and s*x education. It's a vital service for many people who can't afford better, but the Abortion piece really is something that overshadows the good they do for women and young girls. I believe that Planned ParentHood should re-evaluate its position on Abortion especially since they advocate Planning for family not aborting families. Women should not have the right to take life from the womb just like we aren't allowed to take an individual's life out of the womb without faceing the consequences (justice). It's hypocrisy at its best. How can you be Family Planning and at the same time offering women the option to kill (abort) innocent little babies? Sorry, I don't buy it.

@ Jen: As I stated early, it is a lightning rod because it does offer abortion services. I don't think its right when some women use abortion as a means of birth control. I don't think its right let alone fair that Viagara is on the market for men but research is needed for women to have a bill for their s*xual needs. I also find it wrong for men to tell grown women what to do with their bodies. I'm not condoning abortion, but I want my daughters to have these services available, if they ever need them.

I understand what you mean, but it isn't just men who are deciding on the issue of abortion in our government. Just food for thought....
