"MOON WATCHERS GET READY TO BE BREATHLESS"........ (1201 hits)

If you like watching the moon, and the stars or; the heavens you'll have an opportunity tonight to see what's being called a "Supermoon" It's sure to leave you breathless...... Sources say that the large moon is due to appear tonight March 19, 2011. The big Lover's Moon is the largest one seen in 18 years and will be the largest one in this year. The large view is caused by it's closed point to the earth which in indicated in light years travel. At 3:00 EDT the moon will be about a distance of 221,565 miles (356,575 kiolmeters) away.

When the moon has peaked it will appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than a regular full moon. If your weather permits where you live--you can be the

Sister Irma,
I tried to capture some pictures on my blackberry and even do a video of it, but the pictures aren't turning out right. I guess I need a different approach like a camara. I do hope that there will be some fabulous pictures of this moon on tomorrow floating around cyberspace.

TO TELL THE KIDS - "'Supermoon' to rise Saturday, even more rare than a blue moon" - L.A. Times: "Blue moons (a term referring to the second full moon in a month) usually occur about every 2 1/2 years; the last supermoon was recorded in 1993, and the next one won't occur until 2029. 'Supermoon is a situation when the moon is slightly closer to Earth in its orbit than on average, and this effect is most noticeable when it occurs at the same time as a full moon,' Dr. James Garvin, chief scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center said on the agency's website, ... explaining that this moon will seem bigger to the naked eye. ... 'The 'super' in supermoon is really just the appearance of being closer.' ... [T]he technical name is a 'perigee' moon." Early on Sunday morning I could see the larger moon. It was breathtaking. I didn't take a photo cause.. it was still dark out and I was still in my night clothes..[Smiles] The view from my kitchen window was beautiful.

@Irma I'm sure there'll be some floating around somewhere for us without the right cameras...It's something to see even without cameras at all. I know in certain areas of the world it may not be viewed because of cloudy weather. But those who can will surely enjoy the moon lover's moment. [Smiles]

MIISRAEL, "I" do hope there are lots of pictures of this event on the net as well as the tv media, because we have been given the bad news starting yesterday that due to the rain and over cast, we here in this part of northren Ca. will not get to see this great, rare sighting in real time. (smile)

So far, I am sad that there is not much coverage of this right now. but, I can always count on the national geograph channel and the science channel to make up for this. (smile)
