Most people don't realize that the firebombing of Japan was MORE destructive than the atom bombs. It seems that the real reason for hurriedly dropping the bombs was 2 get Japan 2 quickly surrender 2 the US, so that America didn't have to share Japan with Russia as it had to do with Germany. The 1st bomb was dropped 2 days before Russia was due to invade. Truman wrote that he wanted "total control" of Japan.
