African Americans (also referred to as Black Americans or Afro-Americans, and formerly as American Negroes) are citizens or residents of the United States who have origins in any of the black populations of Africa. In the United States, the terms are generally used for Americans with at least PARTIAL Sub-Saharan African ancestry. Most African Americans are the direct descendants of captive Africans who survived the slavery era within the boundaries of the present United States, although some are—or are descended from—immigrants from African, Caribbean, Central American or South American nations. The term black people is used in systems of racial classification for humans of a dark skinned phenotype. Different societies apply different criteria regarding who is classified as "black", and often social variables such as class, socio-economic status also plays a role so that relatively dark skinned people can be classified as WHITE if they fulfill other social criteria of WHITENESS and relatively light skinned people can be classified as black if they fulfill the social criteria for blackness. As a biological phenotype being "black" is often associated with the very dark skin colors of some people who are classified as 'black'. In the United States, the racial classification also refers to people with all possible kinds of skin pigmentation from the darkest through to the very lightest skin colors, including albinos, if they are believed by others to have African ancestry and exhibit cultural traits associated with being "African-American". Therefore, the term 'black people' is not an indicator of skin color but of racial classification(defined by European anthropologists). Some definitions of the term include ONLY people of relatively recent Sub Saharan African descent. Among the members of this group, dark skin is most often accompanied by the expression of natural afro-hair texture (recent scientific study notes that human skin color diversity is highest in sub-Saharan African populations). Other definitions of the term "black people" extend to other populations characterized by dark skin, including some indigenous to Oceania and Southeast Asia. @Robert I read your blog several times. I found it quite interesting honestly. I didn't find it hostile; but more of and educational and teaching view. Perhaps, I didn't see it as to what others saw I really can't determined their views --but this is my own opinion. I feel it meaning to serve a purpose for understanding race/color/person and religion in an open mindness to the acceptance of changing the prejudices; and putting an end to race bashing and bigotry of persons.
This is what I gained from the content. I suggest perhaps others may try reading it again.
It is always best to get the best understanding possible.

Excellent scholarship!! I concur with the commentary and believe that Race is obsolete. Did you know that in S. Afrika the phenotype of dark species (or Blacks) were classified as Coloured and Blacks; S. Afrika utilized the "Pencil Test" where they would stick a pencil in a questionable person's hair to see if the pencil would stay or fall out. If it stayed, then you know what that meant... That poor soul was Black under Apartheid Law.

The Five Percent Nation is headed by Clarance 13X, who we now refer to as the Father.

Nation of Gods and Earths/Five Percent FAQ (frequently asked questions)
1.) What are the Nation of Gods and Earths (Five Percent?)
The Five Percent began as an offshoot of the NOI (Nation of Islam) back in 1964 by Clarence 13X who was a minister in Mosque no. 7 under the tutelege of Malcolm X. The movement was started because Clarence 13X rejected the notion that Wallace Fard was God Incarnate (see NOI). He began teaching that the black man himself was god. Five Percenters also depart from NOI in their teaching of the Supreme Alphabet and Supreme Mathematics, an arcane system devised by Clarence 13X wherein each letter or numeral denotes a concept with an accompanying parable. "A" stands for Allah, "B" is Be or Born, "C" is See and so on. This process is known as "dropping science".
Supreme Mathematics - teaches that numbers 0-9 means:
1 - Knowledge
2 - Wisdom
3 - Understanding
4 - Culture/Freedom
5 - Power/Refinement
6 - Equality
7 - God
8 - Build/Destroy
9 - Born
0 - Cipher
2.) Why do they call themselves members of the Nation of Gods and Earths or Five Percenters?
Clarence 13X taught that eighty-five percent of the population is made up of ignorant, unlearned and uncivilized people who need to be led (mostly churchgoers). This eighty-five percent are believed to have no "knowledge of self". Ten percent of the population have some knowledge of self [i.e. the real truth], however, they use this knowledge to wield control over the eighty-five percent vs. "liberating" them [most baptist preachers, including Rev. Jesse Jackson are believed to be in this category]. Lastly, he considered the remaining five percent to be those who thought/believed like himself and his followers. The "poor, righteous teachers", the ones who do possess knowledge of themselves, their origins, and the way the world system really is -- and additionally, the way in which the new world order will come about. Their job/mission is to educate the eighty-five percent to what this hidden or veiled knowledge really is. [In the last few years, they have preferred to be called the Nation of Gods and Earths. The men are referred to as "gods" and the women are referred to as "earths"] - I have been informed recently by a member that Allah "The Father" , Clarence 13X, said that after 1967 they would no longer be known as the 5% Nation of Islam, but as Allah's Nation of Gods and Earths.
3.) How did this message spread?
This message was delivered as a street rap that mesmerized New York City youth. They won converts by the hundreds. Today the group numbers in the tens of thousands in NYC alone. This message was also well-timed, as the 1960's were obviously a time of great struggle for blacks in America. This was a message [very similar to the black supremacist doctrines of the NOI] that made black youths feel superior in a world where they were viewed as wholly inferior.
4.) How popular is it?
Well it is popular among many African-American male youth, especially in poor, urban areas. However, this thinking is also embraced by well off individuals. Its popularity is helped along by many R&B/Hip-Hop artists. Erykah Badu, Nas, Common, Wu-Tang, Busta Rhymes, and countless others have their lyrics laced with 5% doctrine. In addition to using these beliefs in their music some rap artists like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and Lakim Shabazz have used the 5% flag on their album covers. Their numbers are believed to be in the hundreds of thousands, however they personally claim many more members. The concentration of Five Percenters is believed to be the highest on the East Coast, not coincidentally to be the location of the birth of rap and hip hop music. The major cities that boast the largest African-American populations can be known to have a significant number of Five Percent adherents. These cities include: New York, New Jersey, New Haven, Washington D.C., Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Baltimore and Atlanta (to name a few). This belief system has been embraced by some internationally as well.
5.) What are the requirements for membership?
The requirements of "official" membership in the Five Percent are unclear. They do not have organized affiliation. A Five Percenter will frequently say that they simply came into knowledge of self, or better yet, the "fact" that the "Asiatic Black Man" is God... It is more a way of life and they would shun any reference to them being a "religion". They do refer to "knowledging 120" (120 refers to their lessons which are virtually identical to the Supreme Wisdom originated by Elijah Muhammed and W.D. Fard). This question of whether they have knowledged (mastered/understood) these lessons appears to be rather important because often you will hear them say: "I knowledged 120 in [plug year in here]". In many dialogues or "builds" among themselves, disagreements are usually met with challenges to a member's knowledge of 120.
Suffice it to say that this step of absorbing the lessons likely separates the babies from the seasoned, and at the same time can expose a perpetrator. As indicated on a section of their homepage, they appear to really keep up with the rap artists level of commitment to their teachings, regardless of whether or not they pepper their lyrics with their lingo.
There are also, Parliaments and Schools that the members attend, which are rallys/meeting places where lessons are distributed and members can listen to speakers and meet others.
6.) Do they have a holy book or some by-laws?

Additionally there is an emphasis on knowing the history of the Five Percent, having an understanding of the Nation's flag and being aware of Clarence 13X's legacy. Another lesson, Teachings for the Civilized, is also of some interest. There is an underground newspaper that is offered by subscription only. I have also discovered a newsletter called The Black 7. The lessons and paper have a wide circulation in prisons, where the Five Percent have mounted a significant outreach campaign. Underground books are circulated as well. Hello,
All of you are wrong. I have divine authority to say that all of you are wrong and that is because I know who we are as a people because I know how we came into existence. Therefore, all these things of branches of Christianity and branches of Islam does not belong to us because we are not the same race as the people that Islam and Christianity came to, am I right.
The scriptures of these other people are not our scriptures. Yet, you all interweave your selves in the fabric of other people's scriptures to believe that these scriptures are your scriptures as well. We need to stop this stupid foolishness and seek from God to have our own. Am I making any sense?
I am the way, and besides me, there is no other way that Black Americans could ever become a real people in this world. Everything that I say is going to happen in my lifetime. Black Americans are going to inherit a fertile portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders to have a God-given opportunity to use our brains to become the good steward of this earth. This means we will learn how to use the materials of this earth to our best advantage and far beyond what Caucasian people have learned thus far to lead this world in a better direction than what the Caucasian people have done. Am I making any sense?

Hello to all,
Black Americans who are descendents of plantation slaves are not the original people that God created. No one knows who the original people were except that they were dark skin people and that is based on the fact of having dominant genes.
The race of Black Americans is approximately 500 years old.
Black Americans were born out of the ashes of plantation slavery and that is because White American English men bred themselves with the first wave of pure African slaves, then with the offspring for over 300 years to increase their slave population without having to buy more African people.
But, at the same time this breeding process was happening a new race of people was coming into existence and here we are today as Black Americans.
I know that I am right because no Black American existed any where in the world especially in Africa before slavery began in this country 500 years ago.
The mentality that you all have tell me that you all do not know precisely who you are and how you came into existence and only ignorant people don't know who they are and where they came from, am I right.
I am Black America's first genuine prophet and I am here to eradicate the ignorance of my people, Black Americans just as Moses was the genuine prophet of the children of Israel and Moses was there to eradicate the ignorance of the children of Israel before entering the Promised Land. Likewise, Black America's ignorance must be gone ahead of inheriting a fertile portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders to worship God, pursue life, liberty, happiness and prosperity in our own way. This means we must let go of all that we have because all that we have belongs to other people. You so-called wannabe Arabian Muslims must let go Islam because Islam belongs to with the Arabian people. Our religion is LIFE.
Therefore, the dialoguing that you all are having is moot!

Hello to all,
Truth B Told is one of my people as you Robert is also one of my people. All of my people regardless to what they are into need extensive mental rehabilitation before we could inherit our fertile portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders to pursue life in our own way.
When I explained to you all that what you all are into is wrong you all react the same way and that is to delete me. I explained to Truth B Told that the 5 Percenters are wrong he deleted what I said. Naturally, what I said must have cut deep into him that all he could do was delete what I said instead of intelligently responding if I was wrong.
What he did is the same as what Jamal used to do to me about a year ago. It is what Siebra, Ms. Jen, Ms. Irma, Gary Williams and so many others did.
He knows that he is a foolish man to say that his religion is Islam when he is not an Arab man. Every Black American that claims Islam as their religion when they are not Arabian people tells the world how ignorant we are. Elijah Muhammad was the first ignorant Black American man to have accepted the Arabian religion of Islam when he was a Black American who is a descendent of plantation slaves. Since Mr. Truth B Told confidently it made it that the 5 Percenters is an offshoot from the Nation of Islam would make the 5 Percenters just as nutty and ignorant as the Nation of Islam is.
We must have our own starting with our own genuine prophet. We must have our own religion and that we have. Our religion is LIFE. We should not be sucking up to other people and their religion. When we do this we tell the world that we are followers as slaves are followers.
I am the way, and besides me, there is no other way that Black Americans could ever become a real people in this world.

This is a bald-faced lie. You are telling this lie because you don't know any better.
Black Americans are a new race of people that originated on this continent and not in Africa. Black Americans are a new race of people orchestrated by White Americans when White Americans bred themselves with the African slaves they purchase from the slave traders with real English money, pounds and shillings. If White Americans did not read themselves with the African slaves then of course the African slaves would have remained African. The Gullah people in South Carolina remained Africans because White Americans did not brief themselves with them because they feared malaria. What you have said here Robert is an example of not being able to rationalize in a straight line.
