Stillman's Fisher Gives Back to Arts n' Autism Summer Camp (860 hits)

Dr. Brock Fisher, Chair of the Department of Fine Arts at Stillman, will be spending his third consecutive summer at Arts n' Autism's yearly summer camp. As an instructor of drama, ukulele and dance, Dr. Fisher was acknowledged for his work in applied drama for spectrum disorder at this year's Alabama Autism Conference.

Arts 'n Autism, Inc., is Tuscaloosa's only after-school and summer camp program for children, adolescents and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). While the program is regularly housed at Covenant Presbyterian Church, it has relocated to First Presbyterian Church due to tornado damage.

The 2011 Summer Camp will be held the weeks of June 20 and June 27. The program will offer onsite morning specialty camps (i.e. music, art, dancing) at First Presbyterian and afternoon field trips. Each class encourages language development, sensory integration and social skills.

This summer, Dr. Fisher will be originating new courses in Comic Art in addition to teaching his regular classes in the other arts.

That sounds like a really awesome camp packed with programs and activity to stimulate the minds and hearts of persons who suffer from Autism and like disorders in that spectrum. I pray that one day sooner than later, there will be a cure for this disorder.
