Philly Mayor Michael Nutter blast black youth and their parents in his city Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has had enough of flash mobs of black youth attacking innocent people. At his own church he gave a speech in which he laid the law down to both black youth and their parents. He tells these youth that they have let down their own race. Although I empathize with the Mayor of this city and can even understand some of his frustrations to keep his city and the citizens of his city safe; he needs to understand that kids get in trouble when there isn't enough activity for them to release their youthful energy irrespective of whether they come from good families or suspect families. I agree with him that the youth of Philly are good, but when the youth don't have enough to do, it is a fact of life that an idle mind is the devil's workshop.
I propose that the Mayor help these youth and the parents by providing outlets other than Libraries for these youth. Provide alternative than lock up, but the opening of recreational centers all over the community where they can release some of their energy. Provide parents with parenting workshops as well as job training workshops to update their skills inorder to get qualified for better paying jobs.
The economy is having challenges and increases in violence is only reflective of what is going on overall. When parents don't have money to feed their kids and to keep the lights on--- what does he expect?
Tough love ( "Leave the innocent people walking down the street minding their own damn business alone.") has its place, but the Mayor using this type of language and trying to make a few Black people to be reflective of the entire race is ludicrous! This tough talk talking about locking up these troubled youth is CRAZY! Unacceptable and I'm appauled with the Mayor's racist, stereotypical, and unprofessional tone and language. These people are applauding him when they really should be calling for his resignation or an apology. This is CRAZY!

FURTHERMORE if this Mayor was any other color than Black, what do you suppose those Black people in the audience would be doing? ? ? Come on now! Rev. Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, NAACP, Tom Joyner, Mike Basedon, everybody else, and THEY mama's would be crying by now. ... Unbelievable!!!!

If I understand you correctly, this is a political play for his (Mayer Nutter's) re-election stomp campaign,eh? Anyway, if I lived there in that city I would still feel the same way. He's crossed the line and needs to apologize.

Greg, I called my teen grand daughter who lives in Philly yesterday, because I have been seeing news reports on these flash mobs...here is what she told me...
This did not just start there as it has been going on for over a year and only when school is out and it always stops whenschool is back in session like it did when the students wer out on holiday last Christmas.
oh and if I may add most people in Philly aee disapointed in having voted this mayor into office and have been upset with him since he turned on senator .BH.O. as he was running fo rpresident in 2008. (nup-smile)

Jen, I spent many years of my childhood on South Street in Philly, theyhad gangs back then only back then what they called 'gangs' doing was gang crimes which today hate crimes have been named gang crimes and gang crimes are now called 'flash mobs'...
and Jen my point of what I said was this was going on long before this mayor is comin gup for relection against the voters in this city's voter's remorse... get where I am coming from for real, Jen which has nothing to do with the color of the skin as people not Black are in this also if we can move past manipulated media and go to the actual sources. Now for more things related to unlearning this myth on Blacks are natural born violent peoples...this is mostly happening in south Philly and real funny that th emayor all of a suddden is in need of protecting the GAYS as in yes Jen, sout philly has been rebuilt and have so many of the gormet eating places that Blacks can't afford to eat at...work at fow no pay, yes which adds to why they can't afford to eat there.lol...
