WASHINGTON, August 30, 2011 -- The Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture is planning an exhibit with Thomas Jefferson's Monticello to explore the third president's history with slavery. Museum officials say "Jefferson and Slavery at Monticello: Paradox of Liberty" will tackle the sensitive subject of slavery during the American Revolution. Jefferson called slavery an "abominable crime" but was a lifelong slaveholder. The exhibit announced Tuesday will open in January at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. The black history museum is under development and is slated to open in its own building on the National Mall in 2015. At Monticello in Virginia, curators are beginning a long-term restoration of Mulberry Row, which included 21 dwellings for enslaved and free workers at the plantation. An exhibit on Mulberry Row opens in February.

You know, Irma--I often wondered about your love for TJ--it seemed so out of character until I factored in your Buddhist value system which has a deep and forgiving attitude toward human behavior.

Right.
It is a sensitiver topic here in NY. All of us know first hand that we were breathing some kind of toxic witches brew for weeks after 9/11. It smelled and tasted horrible.
Those folks who worked at the pit breathed it in ehavy doses. WE KNEW it ws toxic--it did not take a MD. to figure that out.

sorry for the last reply as I was falling asleep writting it.......
Rich I was talking about the program on PBS called THE NEED TO KNOW(it is a relatively new series on the PBS channelts...
This Marine vet, Jerry Esminger who spent his whole career as a Marine was stationed at Camp Lejeunein myhome town's samll daughter died from lukemia...he spoke before congress afteer the Corp was forced to disclose these toxins yet the government refused to locate all of those people who had visited, that base, and drank the atere with TCE, PCE and Benzene in it...He was just as hurt over his small child's death as he was the Marine corp's motto being Sempri Fi (always faithful) covering this up from so many citizens at large so he wrote a book by this name and finally got someone to pay attention to him, do the reseach and come to believe him and now thanks to these same peoples there will be a movie so tha those who still don't know about this can learn about it.and, Rich the WWW is the best way to get this needed and way over doue info out there. (smile)
AND, OUR PRESIDENT'S ASKING THAT THE MILITARY GET THEIR MILITARY ROECORDS IN A SPEECH THIS WEEK WILL ALSO GO TOHELP MANY LEARN ABOUT THIS ALSO...BETTER LATE THAN NEVER...

So true Rich, so true...but also it is true the were are not yet ready for the turth...Does anyone believe Thomas Jefferso nwould be declared by me of all people to be my most adimired president as one of its founding fathers unless I believed most are not still ready to accpet the truth "I" full about thse great philosopher, politician, statesman and human being?!?example,
WILL A PART OF HIS EXIBIT BE THE 'ORIGINAL' ORIGINAL CONSTUTITION??? THE ONE THAT JEFFERSO PUT IN IT ALL MEN ENCLUDING THE BLACKS WERE FREE???? brother Cow, if you can get that PBS program it would be so nice to see it on all of the sites. It is too bad you don't write this kinds of storys but if you did i know it would be a best celleer and may be amovie. I am sure there are countless people out here not knowing they could hav gotten cancer when stationed there.
