31st Day in Samoa and Tokelau
IT'S SATURDAY!:
There in the South Pacfic where upon the islands of Samoa and Tokelau it's already Saturday and New Year's Eve. That's because earlier in June of 2011 the Samoa government passed a law to eliminate Friday, December 30, 2011 and head straight to Saturday, December 31, 2011. This was done in order that the small island could align its time zone with key trading parteners in the Asia-Pacific region by shifting west of international date line. The day's jump allows 186,000 citizens to be the first to ring in the New 2012 Year, rather than the last. So,.. for the most part the day was skipped over for mainly economic advantages. Many that live on the islands are excited that the new time rather; the day's change will allow more hours in a day to celebrate family events, such as birthdays and other daily family features and functions. Residents of the island celebrated on midnight December 29th by driving around the main clock tower blowing their horns and cheering. When the clock struck 12 Friday never existed. In addition, prayer services were held around the country as they literary removed a whole day from their time zone. Now all maps and calendars will be changed and anything dated and caused and effect with the whole day of December 30, 2011. Those who didn't work today will get paid for a non-existing Friday.
Geez...somebody lost their birthdays!
"It's the wave of the future....."~~~~~
Does anyone really knows what time--- I mean what day it is?
That's totally interesting.
