The shooting took place in Sanford, FL. Here is some history of the town I ran across from this article (2008): http://mysanfordherald.com/view/full_st ... . Sanford's namesake, Henry S. Sanford, was a Connecticut lawyer and diplomat who moved to Florida after purchasing 12,548 acres along the St. Johns River in 1870. The community was incorporated in 1877 and two years later he formed the Florida Land and Colonization Co. ... When Henry Shelton Sanford purchased the land grant that is now the city of Sanford in 1870, he envisioned Lake Monroe as a busy harbor with riverboats bringing commerce, tourists and immigrants. He based all his plans on riverboats and railroads since he died in 1891, five years before Henry Ford built his first car. ... Henry Sanford was at the height of his diplomatic career during the Lincoln administration and was an active promoter of the new Republican Party in Florida during Reconstruction. He supported voting rights, education and entrepreneurship in Georgetown, the African-American community he designed as part of Sanford's town plan. In February 1890, he wrote to his son these words: "They have fulfilled my expectations & have become, many of them, prosperous citizens…and I think they should be encouraged in their efforts to elevate themselves.” Another insteresting fact is that the city of Sanford was incorporated in 1877, the SAME YEAR of Reconstruction and many of Mr. Sanford's best hopes for the black community came to an end. He died before the town of Goldsboro was incorporated in December 1891. Here is some more irony: Not only was Mr. Sanford born on a Sunday, June 15, 1823, the shooting of Trayvon also happened on a Sunday. 1+8+2+3=14, 1+4=5 2+0+1+2 = 5 For what is worth....

P.S. For this Reverend to even come on National TV to speak out against Rev. Jackson & Sharpton says a lot about him.

Hi sister Irma, you have been in my thoughts a great deal lately. Well I meant in the minds of the viewers. Myself, C. L. Bryant seems to make the more cogent argument, though not without flaws.

I'm still having trouble getting to the gist of this, the more so because I don't know the backgrounds of these two. What of Bryant's quote of his grandfather at the end?

ASA... Thanks for sharing this.I've always enjoyed Roland Martin and respect his concerns and tactics. We must not get distracted on the TRUE ISSUE at hand.Racism is present and the strength of it is being revealed daily. As we argue amongst ourselves this evil force grows stronger. Its no doubt that we'll have different ideas and views on similar issues but at times we can get so caught up on our views til it takes much needed focus away from the issue... Jazakallah Khair(may God reward you for your good deeds)

Very true my sister, but it follows that there are as many Black experiences as there are Black persons. And I wonder if every Black (as seen by others) person necessarily has a Black experience. Similar as I refuse to title myself White, though of course if others give me that title it is their prerogative and not an offence to me. You do know I am only seeking enlightenment.

UPDATE FROM THE WASHINGTON POST: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/eri ... ml?hpid=z6 NBC told this blog today that it would investigate its handling of a piece on the “Today” show that ham-handedly abridged the conversation between George Zimmerman and a dispatcher in the moments before the death of Trayvon Martin. A statement from NBC:“We have launched an internal investigation into the editorial process surrounding this particular story.” Great news right there. As exposed by Fox News and media watchdog site NewsBusters, the “Today” segment took this approach to a key part of the dispatcher call: Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black. Here’s how the actual conversation went down: Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about. Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic? Zimmerman: He looks black. The difference between what “Today” put on its air and the actual tape? Complete: In the “Today” version, Zimmerman volunteered that this person “looks black,” a sequence of events that would more readily paint Zimmerman as a racial profiler. In reality’s version, Zimmerman simply answered a question about the race of the person whom he was reporting to the police. Nothing prejudicial at all in responding to such an inquiry. In an appearance on Fox News’s “Hannity,” Brent Bozell, president of the conservative Media Research Center, called this elision on the part of ”Today” an “all-out falsehood” — not just a distortion or misrepresentation. And it’s a falsehood with repercussions. Much of the public discussion over the past week has settled on how conflicting facts and interpretations call into question whether Zimmerman acted justifiably or criminally. That’s a process that’ll continue. But one set of facts in the is ironclad, and that’s the back-and-forth between Zimmerman and the dispatcher. To portray that exchange in a way that wrongs Zimmerman is high editorial malpractice well worthy of the investigation that NBC is now mounting. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that NBC purposely altered the Zimmerman tape out of context. Regardless of Zimmerman's guilt or no guilt, the media sure likes to play the race card and to create further divisions between blacks and whites. If we know anything about history, it's that the media is no "friend" to black people. Just look at the media's continuous mockery of the death of our sister Whitney Houston. That alone should let you know something.

If a police officer shoots a person, He is usually put on a desk job pending the investigation. What is wrong with this picture. Even if the stand your ground law is in fact a protection for the shooter, where is the investigation and the first piece of evidence SHOULD be the weapon. Ray Charles can see that.

Dear Irma, I see two problems. Your explanation of the one above is perfectly clear. But I think the deeper one is the one we have in the case of Derrion Albert. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Der... And this I do not see as a Black Problem, but rather an Inner City Problem. Now what if Bryant (and the rest of us) rephrased his statistics of "black-on-black crime" and saw this as inner city crime, pure and simple, a product of the environment? We need to change the environment, and that will mitigate the profiling.

Roland is going in on this guy and the both got a good point ,,the most dangerous person to a young black man is a black man what a we doing about that ? it takes a white man to kill black teen in order for blacks to take notice !! i understand the march for justice, but there needs to be a march for since-less killing of blacks in americkkk only when the norm is broken then the media turns on the spotlight to get the best ratings /story ,,,truth of the matter is black on black crime has been going on for years and no one is spotlighting it ,,where is the black collation for violence against each other where is Jessie , sharpton , Roland and all our so called black leaders then ! we already know what the white people gonna say '' let them nig@#A"s kill each other'' . we need to march everyday block by block and take back the streets for the future of the next generations of black kids ! we need to go to the hop hop artist and make them pay and support the cause for black unity them we need to make our black leaders hold them accountable to making progress ,,,,there is a call for justice all over the united states because somewhere there is a a dead black man ! justice or just us !

What I would like to know is this, Where are the photos of Trayvon after being killed by Zimmerman, that Police agencies NORMALLY take of the evidence of a person death? Are there some that have been hidden from the news reports? If not, why didn't they take any? They could have been taken with a cell phone. Are they hiding evidence of the crime?

In a debate, you must be able to prove that your points are accurate in order to win, so your mind should be made up that YOU ARE RIGHT.

@ Brother Rabbit, it is someting like you are a male and I can never experience what it is to be male...we just too, too often over look the definition of "natural"...now maybe this will help with Bryant... On mybio page, "I" talk about forming the first NAACP club in UCD's history and intergrating the city of Davis, Ca. police department... It was the NAACP its self that caused it to be more hard to get this club started so that we could put an end to Black students being wrongly profiles 1. Students with brand new cars they had recieved as their high school graduation presents were profiled, stoped and question by the police as drug dealers...2. Black males in groups discussing what people discuss was seen as a threat to the welfafe of Davis, Ca., going late to a fast food resturaNT, GETTING SERVED IN DOWN TOWN DAVIS CAFES ect. ONe goes to their nearest NAACP brance for help and Sacramento as 12 miles from Davis was the closest one...but, theY did not want to 'rock th eboat of this CONSERVATIVE CAMPUS...(who by the way had no people of color in the African-AMERICAN study department(but tis is another story-lol) therefore we went to th eNational NAACP who at this time was intergrating grade schools in Velaho, Ca. Now please remember this was in the end of the 90s (smile)

Me, "I" am glad he has joined in on the token black list over onFox as a regular... great teaching moment in how the NAACP can have presidents like Rev. Bryant who can use / abuse its name (as well as God's name)to promote emotional, egotistical , discrimination, fear, hate ect. But the National Naacp can not as it can only enforced laws under our Constutition as related to civil and human rights violations....(smile)

...BUT, STEVE IF THIS IS PUT INTO THE CATAGORY OF TRAYVON MARTIN WAS KILLED FOR WALKING TO THE PLACE HE SLEPT AT BECAUSE OF PREJUDGEING HE DID NOT 'BELONG' IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD THEN THIS BECOMES A DEBATE OF SHOULD HE HAVE BEEN KILLED WITH A ROPE AND NOT WITH A GUN?... AND, SEEKING FULLMENT OF OUR AMERICAN COURT'S (BVBOE)SAY STEM THEN IT BECOMES ALSO ANOTHER STORY ALL TOGATHER... NOW Steve, may I ask you this as this is what this death of TM has a lot to do with... WHEN THE POLICE PUT HANDCUFFS ON YOU , PUT YOU IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE POLICE CARS...YOU HAVE BEEN OFFICALLY PLACED UNDER ARRESST BY EVERY POLICE DEPT. IN THE USA AS BEING UNDER ARREST...WHICH RIGHT NOW ALMOST MAKES GEORGE ZIMMERMANN'S ARREST ALMOST IRRELEVANT AT THIS POINT AND TIME... IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO FIND OUT HOW MANY OTHER LATINOS HAVE HAD THE STATE OF FLA'S STATE ATTORNEY DRIVE TO A POLICE STATION AND 'UNARREST' AT LEAST ONE OTHER WHERE TH ELEAD HOMOCIDE DETECTIVE (AND EXPERT) HAS OFFICALLY SAID TIS IS AT LEAST MANSLAUGHTEER!!!...ACUTALLY THIS MAY GO IN THE LONG RUN TO HELP GIVE AIDE AND COMFORT TO THE LATINOS IN AZ....MY PEOPLE ARE ALL ABOUT PROTECTING THE COMING GENERATIONS FROM TH EPAINS OF NO EQUAL JUSTICE OF THE GENERATION THAT CAME BEFORE... "I" say since they don't have Rev. J.W , Minister Farrakhann (in a unity not seen for over 50 yrs.)to kick around in the 2012 election they must have someone, say, like a Black preacher to kick around Black preachers and the NAACP to boot... Just more and more of back lashes they will receive from all of this. (smile)
