ROUND TWO: POETRY'S OPEN POST! (1333 hits)

Poetry post is open!

Langston Hughes is here to start it up!

Mother to Son

Well, son I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor--
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps.
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now--
For I'se still goin' honey,
I'se still climbin'.
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

My baby, My son

His little body
breathing in new life,
aging as he grows.

Nursing eyes watching me,
As he sucks to become filled.

My arms gives me sweetness.
He sleeps in comfor.
Never worrying.

As I lie him down,
never visiting this episode again...
except

in my memory.

50-50
I'm all alone in this world, she said,
Ain't got nobody to share my bed,
Ain't got nobody to hold my hand--
The truth of the matter's
I ain't got no man.

Big Boy opened his mouth and said,
Trouble with you is
You ain't got no head!
If you had a head and used your mind
You could have me with you
All the time.

She answered, Babe, what must I do?

He said, Share your bed--
And your money, too

Feelings and Such
[Speaking of his lady...]

I feel like if she loves me..
She wouldn't have a problem
wit where I go.
I don't think it would bother me.

Sure, I stay gone all day, but
I'm just hanging with the fellows.
We're just drinking a few beers,
And watching the game.
Sometimes we're just riding round.

When I come in, she's acting all
Moody.
I think she's taking this too seriously.
Then I can't get my love grove on....
Cause she says, she not going for it.
I tell her I'm sorry, because
well, she like that sort of thang.

I feel that I'm not doing anything.
She says I'm not spending any time
wit her.

Then, when I came home.
She was gone.

I feel that I don't care.
But, inside
I miss her....
I feel I do.

BOUQUET

Gather quickly
Out of darkness
All the songs you know
And throw them at the sun
Before they melt
Like snow

TEARING OPEN HEAVEN'S SKY

Seeking to be in His kingdom
Of
Peace
Tranqulity
and
Love.
I wanted to tear open heaven's sky.
Reach up and throw myself inside....

This is a love poem I wrote with no particular person in mind...

SEARCHING HEARTS
By Siebra Muhammad

Love is a battle; love is a dream.
to walk with you hand in hand,
is what I want more.
I will fight for you;
and stand by your side.

Your heart lays in my hands
and tightly I hold.
Each day we are together,
the love that we have for each other.
One day after another,
til each day we grow older.

Me happiest you have made.
For each memory never ceases to fading.
My hearts skips a beat, when;
in my eyes you are gazing.

For this, this here; is ours,
you and I against the world, we will rise above.
hours and hours,
you and I; you and me.
Together, forever.

An ode to Nippy...

FAME CLAIMS WHITNEY HOUSTON

Fame has claimed another life,
with Whitney's tragic death,
Forty eight is far too young
to have taken her last breath.

Being in the public eye
with cameras always clicking,
Takes a toll on family life
with critics always picking.

Her powerful amazing voice
delighted many fans,
Such accolades bestowed on her,
and applause from many hands.

She achieved so very much
selling millons of records,
Winning Grammys, Emmys, AMAs,
and Music Billboard awards.

She acted in the Bodyguard
and vowed us with her song,
She belted out such ballads,
she seemed to do no wrong.

But pressures became too much,
drink and drugs took hold,
Down a path of tragedy
now never to grow old.

As we mourn Whitney's passing
with heavy hearts and tears,
Her brilliant voice will live on
her music in our ears,

Now with God on heaven's stage
her voice can now extol,
Praising God with with her songs
singing with real soul.

Who Will Cry for the Little Boy?

Who will cry for the little boy?
Lost and all alone.
Who will cry for the little boy?
Abandoned without his own?

Who will cry for the little boy?
He cried himself to sleep.
Who will cry for the little boy?
He never had for keeps.

Who will cry for the little boy?
He walked the burning sand.
Who will cry for the little boy?
The boy inside the man.

Who will cry for the little boy?
Who knows well hurt and pain.
Who will cry for the little boy?
He died again and again.

Who will cry for the little boy?
A good boy he tried to be.
Who will cry for the little boy?
Who cries inside of me?

Her Little Shadows

I saw a young mother
With eyes full of laughter
And two little shadows
Came following after

Wherever she moved,
They were always right there
Holding onto her skirts,
Hanging onto her chair
Before her,behind her
An adhesive pair

"Don't you ever get weary
As,day after day,
You two little tagalongs
Get in your way?

She smiled as she shook
Her pretty young head,
And I'll always remember
The words that she said

"It's good to have shadows
That run when you run,
That laugh when you're happy
And hum when you hum
For you only have shadows
When your lifes feel with sun"
