Although there are many real external obstacles that keep black men from living the lives that we want, often times the biggest barriers are internal and start with our way of thinking. In many cases the real understanding of racism, corruption, poor living conditions and broken homes can leave one with a feeling of isolation and despair. Too often we are defeated before we start - thinking it impossible to navigate the corrupt American seas filled with corporate sharks and political piranhas.
Black men you are not alone. You are not a minority and you have more power than you know. There are people to help and people who care. In fact, there are many more good people than bad and if we can tap into the collective strength of the masses we can achieve great things.
I started this post with the quote from Maya Angelou: "we are more alike than unalike". Truer words were never spoken. 99% of the human genome is identical. Stated another way by Prince Rogers Nelson in his album referenced in the title of this post, ultimately there is no black and white as we are all "Rainbow Children":
First of all, the term "black and white" is a fallacy. It is simply another way of saying "this or that".
Let's examine the term "this or that" in its ultimate form, which is "this" means the truth and "that" which is resistant to it.
When a minority realizes its similarities on a higher level - not just black, but people of color
and yet higher - Indigenous
and higher still - From the Tribe of
and yet higher - the Rainbow Children
then the understanding comes that the "so-called" minority becomes the majority in the wink of an eye.
This action will cause a reaction or resistance.
The source of this resistance must be banished as it is in direct conflict with the initial action.
It cannot be assimilated - for its very nature is resistance.
In other words, one cannot serve 2 masters. You are either "this", or "that" which is not "this".

Evil may be powerful, but the number of evil people is small compared to the collective majority of good will. Womens Rights, Civil Rights, DADT, Labor Rights, Egypt, Libya and the march continues. So to all the corrupt politicians, heartless CEOs, and ruthless dictators as well as the drug dealers, pimps, haters, racists and slackers I leave you with the mantra of The Black Man Survival Guide:
