LAS VEGAS--O.J. Simpson wants out of prison.
The former football star hired a new lawyer, who filed an appeal for a new trial this week, on the grounds that Simpson was misrepresented by his previous legal counsel. Simpson, has been incarcerated since he was convicted two years ago, on several charges, including of kidnapping and armed robbery.
According to the 94-page document filed by Patricia Palm, in Las Vegas' Clark County District Court the outcome of the trial is blamed on attorney Yale Galanter.
Palm is scheduled to argue the case in court July 3, maintaining that a conflict of interest on Galanter's part hindered him from properly representing Simpson.
Simpson was slapped with a 33-year prison sentence for attempting to recoup personal memorabilia including sports collectables, and family photos.
The 64-year-old was the only person in the case who remains behind bars, leading some to believe that the excessive punishment is a reaction to his acquittal, on murder charges after the brutal killing of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman.
In the years since the crime, the former NFL Hall of Famer vowed to find his ex's killer, but teased a possible confession by way of an ill-fated interview with Oprah, and the release of the book If I Did It.
In 2010 Simpson unsuccessfully appealed his conviction, if this most current request is denied by the lower courts, his lawyer can take her argument to federal courts.
