Fatherlessness.
And it is infecting more and more American households today than ever before in our nation’s history. The birth rate has held steady at about 41% for unwed mothers in the U. S. over the last 3 years. These ever –increasing “fragile families” have caused a structural epidemic in our nation and no one seems to be concerned about stopping it.
On my radio show and in my writings, I often talk about the plight of the black community in America.
Drawing attention to the failed liberal/progressive public policies of the last 50 years and the catastrophic damage that these government centric policies have done to the black community. How these policies have done more to diminish the internal make-up and essential importance of the black family and thereby the black community; far worse than any perverted conservative Jim Crow public policy initiative has ever done.
Social science is a simple study. And when one observes repetitious negative outcomes that are concentrated in particular group e.g. high incarceration rates, high school drop rates, high crime rates, HIV/Aids cases, single-parents homes, high out-of wedlock births, high abortion and rates of poverty, etc…. Then social science if it seeks truth and solutions has to look for causations. External and internal factors, common denominators and more.
Unfortunately, many in the black community embraced the liberal/progressive social scientist view, that all the aforementioned negative outcomes are results of external factors, like systematic racism, discriminatory laws, an unjust criminal justice system, and glass ceilings in the marketplace to name a few.
While those factors would have been undeniable in our Nations’ not too distant past, and I cannot deny that they still exist in some small pockets of our society. Never the less; to zero in on them in our post-civil rights era with complete disregard of the glaring internal factors, is socially dishonest and scientifically lazy.
Science and Political Correctness should never be bedfellows.
Therefore internal factors have to be examined, specifically the disease of Fatherlessness. Every account has shown devastating consequences. This infectious plague that once seemed isolated and contained to the black community has gone viral and is spreading throughout other communities at a freighting pace.
Surveys and studies have already concluded that the incarcerated, the high school dropouts, the out-of wedlock birthters, those in perpetual poverty, the repeat single-parents, drug and alcohol users and those in some cycle of dysfunction; most are likely to have the same debilitating disease – Fatherlessness.
In the mid 60s’ Daniel Patrick Moynihan; a sociologist and Labor Secretary for the Johnson Administration wrote; The Negro Family: the Case for National Action. A study that has been vehemently criticized by the Professional Black & White Left over the last 45 years as a racist manifesto. So much so that Mr. Moynihan himself backed away from some of his own findings toward the end of his political career.
Again, Science and Political Correctness should never be bedfellows.
Any honest observer would have to admit that his writings on this subject have prophetically and sadly come to pass. However; because it was deemed racist by the liberal establishment. It was simply ignored (socially blackballed). Therefore the national and communal inoculations that Mr. Moynihan spoke of; did not take place in the black community or any other community for that matter.
In fact; this disease has become an accepted part of American society. And has been given an almost cult-like or hero-worship status. It has spread to the Hispanic, White and youth communities; in fact according to the New York Times over half the babies born to women under 30 are suffering from this disease.
It has been commercialized for profit. Sperm banks have become a new liberating reproductive way for woman to spread this disease. And for young men, a way to make a quick easy enjoyable buck; no strings attached despite the horrible results of serial unattached fatherhood.
The need and importance of Fathers in the home is truly evident in our society.
It’s time to recognize and admit that we as a Nation are suffering from this disease and do all we can to stop it. If we do not; future generations will look back at us and wonder if we were indeed insane.
