
The US Department of Education awarded Saint Augustine’s University with the Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities grant. The five year grant totaling $2,406,826 is focused on SAFRA (Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act) activities as well as Title III activities.
The Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2009 (SAFRA) earmarked $2.55 billion to be invested in historically black and minority institutions. Title III programs help institutions expand their capacity to serve low-income students by providing funds to improve and strengthen the academic quality, institutional management, and fiscal stability of eligible institutions.
SAFRA activities will include STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Enhancement, a freshman writing initiative and the creation of centers for global education and leadership.
Title III activities will include enhancing faculty and staff development and administrative management; strengthening computer information systems and financial aid technical support; renovation and enhancement of campus resources and facilities improving academic and student services; enhancing institutional advancement by strengthening external relations and program administration.
