Black America we did not deserve for this to happen to us, but here we are 149 years later after the signing of the Emancipation of Proclamation much of the trauma of that era still afflicts us. For the truth of the matter is those chains of slavery that Lincoln holds in his hands were not actually removed until the late 1940s…less than three generations ago, whereas the chains of mental enslavement still remain intact.
However, understanding the affliction gives rise to alternatives for remedy. Knowing that continual acceptance of a word which was cause to dehumanize your great-great grandmother, grandfather, aunts, uncles and cousins reducing them to a sub-human status, 3/5 of a being a word that you are still mentally enslaved to, you must somehow find the strength to break away from…the N WORD (n**ga). You can be in denial all you want but anything you are addicted to, any habit you cannot break – YOU ARE A SLAVE TO.
What advantage is there in calling yourself a n*gga? If this somehow makes you feel connected to other black people…consider yourself a slave on the plantation. This is the 21st not the whip lashing 18th century so if you do nothing else this year—decide to—stop using the n-word in characterizing yourself, to describe other black people you somehow feel is beneath you…and/or as some so-called term of endearment. It’s a mindless, uncouth and stupid thing to do.
Realistically the term isn’t going to disappear into thin air but it can be eliminated from any and all Black African Americans speech, breaking that last link in the chain of mental enslavement. It all begins with you!
