Mitt Romney’s ‘Disgraceful’ Slam on White House Indicative of a Campaign Full of Lies (565 hits)

Oh we missed this one

Mitt Romney’s ‘Disgraceful’ Slam on White House Indicative of a Campaign Full of Lies (Photo credit: DonkeyHotey)
I have zero respect for Mitt Romney. He and Reince Priebus have sunk to a new low in American politics at the expense of slain U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, information officer Sean Smith and the two other American embassy staffers who were killed. He called the White House ‘disgraceful’ for apologizing to Muslims protesting at the embassies in Libya and Egypt. Mitt Romney has run a campaign full of lies and distortions that he doesn’t know where fact ends and fiction begins.
“It’s disgraceful,” Romney’s statement, which was released late Tuesday night, read, “that the Obama administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”
That’s not at all what happened, of course. The actual chronology goes something like this: As anti-American protests inspired by a crude Terry Jones video began gathering steam, the U.S. embassy in Cairo – and not the Obama White House — put out a statement condemning “the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims — as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions.” Source
No where in his rant did he acknowledge that Terry Jones, Sam Bacile and Morris Sandek were wrong to attack the religion of another person. He, better than anyone else, should know how it feels to have your religion mocked. Many people believe he is part of a cult called Mormonism.
Here’s an interesting take from First Read:
First, Romney was referring to a statement that the U.S. embassy in Egypt issued condemning the “efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims.” But that embassy statement, which the White House has distanced itself from, was in reference to an anti-Islam movie and anti-Islam pastor Terry Jones, and it came out BEFORE the embassy attacks began. Then this morning, we learned that the U.S. ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, and others died in one of the attacks.
Mitt Romney’s statement looks worse and worse as new information is filtering out about what really transpired in Benghazi. This will become a PR nightmare for the Romney campaign. Mitt Romney consorts with right wing extremists — Rep. Steve King, Tony Perkins, Bryan Fischer, Pat Robertson and now Terry Jones. His attack on President Obama is one of the most over-the-top and patently incorrect attacks of the general-election campaign. To put it simply, Mitt Romney isn’t ready for the national stage, much less the international stage.
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice issued the following statement:
I am saddened by the tragic loss of life at our Consulate in Benghazi. Ambassador Chris Stevens was a wonderful officer and a terrific diplomat who was dedicated to the cause of freedom. His service in the Middle East throughout his career was legendary.
My thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of all of the fallen. They will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
As you can see, Condoleezza Rice made no reference of President Obama or tried to score political ‘gotcha’ points for Mitt Romney. There is a thing called diplomacy which Mitt Romney and his entire campaign lacks. They live in the shoot-from-the-hip alternative universe. Here’s a tweet from Dana Bash saying Sen. John Kerry (who many believe will be the next Secretary of State) ripped Mitt Romney to shreds over his slam on the White House:

Columnist Peggy Noonan slammed Mitt Romney, saying, “I don’t feel that Mr. Romney has been doing himself any favors, say in the past few hours, perhaps since last night,” Noonan told Fox News. “Sometimes when really bad things happen, when hot things happen, cool words or no words is the way to go.”
Time Magazine’s Mark Halperin wrote on his blog: “[Romney's] doubling down on criticism… is likely to be seen as one of the most craven and ill-advised tactical moves in this entire campaign.”
There’s more:
Three of the most important voices on foreign policy — Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) — said they were “anguished and outraged” by the deaths of American diplomats, and considered Stevens a “friend.” But they, too, didn’t see fit to criticize the president the way Romney did.
“In the midst of last year’s uprising in Libya, Chris traveled at great personal risk to Benghazi to represent the country he loved as the U.S. envoy to the Libyan opposition,” the senators said in a joint statement. Source: Politico
