A white colleague asked me that question. At the time, I did not have an answer so I made up a lie. If asked the same question today, I still don’t have an answer. Perhaps you do.

good question James ,,,let me see if i can showcase a few answers from the same topic i had on facebook I understand what you're talking about. It's something about a black person who doesn't carry himself/herself in the "typical black way" that makes many blacks angry and uncomfortable. Live your life. They don't pay your bills or buy your food so forget them. Yes, black people are very arrogant. That is something about our race that I hate. Nobody toots their own horn better than black people. This could be why other race sympathesize very little with black people when misfortune comes. I do feel that I can be myself when in company of other races because black people can be very judgmental of other black people. A group of black people could be sitting minding their own business. A Latina could walk by and no one blinks an eye. A white woman can walk by and heads won't even turn. An asian woman can walk by and no one will look up. A black woman walks by and the judging begins. "Who dat?" "What she got on?" "That ain't her real hair." "She cute and all but she ain't got nothing on me." It's annoying, but many times you won't be able to avoid it unless you move to someplace like Iceland. As someone mentioned in a previous post is that it is a class issue too, but guess what, most blacks fall into the middle class and working class level anyway so that is the way it is. Just be the best person you can be.

I don't know what's going on, man. You can walk into a black owned business over in Oakland and the negroes running the place will stare you down and frown at you just for opening the door. The service is generally bad too. Then they'll complain when you take your business outside the community. Black people have a lot to learn in the arena of treating each other right.

"There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs."

Hello James, The direct and short answer and the only answer to your question is this. All Black Americans are a subjugated people. Black Americans do not control any segment of our lives and particularly our finances. And, that is why Blacks keep coming to Whites because we are subjugated by Whites. Our ancestors were not free and we their descendent are not free either. The monies we make, have and spend all belongs to White America as we technically still belongs to White America today. The goods and food we buy are what White America provides. Our only permanent solution is our desire to become a sovereign people on a reasonable and fertile portion of this continent that we could call our very own country to go for our selves. What I just said is exactly what God said to me and it is going to happen in my life-time. There is no other way. Our situation mirrors that of the Children of Israel and you know what happen with them because of God intervention, am I right.

@King David Yeah customer service is a big issue with us. Seems the only time we employ it is when were at the club trying to get that dance, or when we are trying to "Get Over" on someone, running a scam. It seems that we don't really understand the concept of building, we have a tendency to want everything ready made example; it is probably easier to get Blacks "not all" to invest in a drug deal, because it implies quick money. Or we will go to the casino and drop a couple of G's in hopes of a big score? I use to say it’s because we still have residue from the Willie Lynch syndrome, but I am not sure we can still use that excuse. Another thing I have notice, we want to take all for little, example I'll put in X dollars but I want 50 to 80%, or we apply the same test that Whites apply to us when we seek funding, little do we realize that the same measuring stick is not apply to their own. Conversely, on the other side, many of us want it all for ourselves, and have not learned the art of sharing for the greater cause. We fail to apply what most of us read in the bible...each has a talent, and each has a part to play, the eyes cannot be the arms, nor can legs be the chest, etc. Then it’s the tendency to want to be Top Dog, and have others follow you around to boast the ego. I believe it balls down to low self-esteem in what we have to offer the world as buyer and seller. We have so many hang ups and I'll list just another example: You was in a deal before and it didn't work out, so now all blacks are fu...k up. Place that person in a deal with A white, with the same outcome and there be ready to go again. We have to figure out a way to break this "master wee sick" syndrome. Perhaps, were just plain old scared, don’t believe were good for another than entertaining and masquerade our fear it in these self-defeating habits. So much to said about this area of none activity, and were soon to enter 2013 with the same problem. However, others have figured us out, and how to get the money out of our hands and are quite good at. They say if you want to start a business direct it towards the trendsetters Blacks. Then, open a store and place a sign in the window that reads “NO BLACKS ALLOWED” We will demonstrate in front of the store, because were going to force the business to take our money. Now, isn’t that some crazy stuff!

@David, You have not answered the question. All that you were doing is whining and complaining. The question was why Black Americans go to Whites to invest in their business, idiot. The question is not about racially different women passing by and Black men become judgmental to wards the Black Women. In addition, you are very arrogant. One of the signs of your arrogance is blocking comments that disagree with you. Before you talk about Black Americans look in the mirror fool

Hello James, Your analogy, examples and complaints are unwarranted because we Black Americans don’t know any better. Nothing is wrong with us except that we need an all round prophet/teacher from God as Moses was the Hebrew people’s teacher. We have no core values because we have not a teacher form God. God was never with us before my anointing. Likewise, God was not with the Hebrew people before Moses anointing. Things are going to change in my life-time. We are listening to everybody and ourselves, but not our prophet who is our divine light.

I guess in reality it balls down to what you have been saying Harry. Since our subterfuge freedom, we have been dealing with the same problem. We tried sew-sew, and that was rule illegal by the establishment because it was not controlled by the establishment, we tried a few other fund pool gathering techniques and those were contaminated as well. Now there’s a program called Crowdfunding, which is built on the concept of sew-sew. @Irma, I hear ya sister; I just believe we have been tricked into thinking its okay to just do for our immediate family. I say tricked because every other culture is doing for the culture at large, because they know that is the only sure way it will exist in the future as strong and independent people.

@King David That's what I'm taking about, all though you had to use a different work force, you created. That's what we are missing, the attempt to create tangible businesses. We will always have those who look to get over, but I believe we are smarter today, and can train a viable workforce, hell there trained to serve others.

To ALL I agree we have parts within our culture that are problematic, but check this out "We don't hold Serve in that area" All cultures have dysfunctional parts. Let's take the Hebrews exodus from Egypt, some tried to thwart the mission, but enough stayed committed to the new way of life. Look we cannot continue to send our kids to school to get an education only to serve a society, a system bent on oppression.

@Kind David, CETA program...WOW! That a flash. To All We keep saying we don't have this or that and we have convinced only ourselves. Ask Nike if they believe that, ask the franchiser of Mickey Dee’s if they believe that’s true, ask the Koreans, Asians, Indians that peddle hair if they believe that’s true. We as a people may have the Oder of distrust, but we better find some air freshener and get past it.

To All There is a term called "Impact Investing". It looks beyond the ROI and looks at how it can benefit a community or a people. Needless to say who crafted it; but it’s a concept Black Americans need to employ. It’s got to go beyond our individual selves.

@Irma I listen to several Black radio programs, and it seems when we get around to the subject of economic empowerment not social, there is an air of silence or its gloss over. Does anyone know why that is? When it is part of the key to our social woes, the other part Harry teaches. On the other hand, maybe I should consider the fact that the majority of those programs are not on black owned and controlled stations, so there is a concern about subjects that stir the conscious mind. I guess, as long as, we are crying the blues, baby momma drama, who shot who, etc., were okay.

here is a interesting comment from a facebook reader ! Lets look at this from the point of research, Research suggests that African Americans are more likely than the general population to have small business aspirations. But I’m sure this is no surprise to you! Many of us grew up with dreams of “being our own boss” and becoming the next neighborhood success story. Owning a successful business can be a realistic goal for many, but it requires dedication, preparation, discipline and knowledge. At several points during my career, I pursued entrepreneurial endeavors. When I first graduated from college, the job market was challenging – similar to what we are experiencing today. I decided then that if I couldn’t find a job I would create one. First, I took the time to consider the skills I acquired in college to determine how best to capitalize on them. Given my studies in finance, I decided that I would start a tax service business. I knew that the field was competitive, so I created a niche for my new business by offering pick-up and delivery services. I was very excited to become a small business owner, but not so eager that I didn’t take the time to deliberately plan and prepare for success. Before pursuing my first client, I made certain to develop a long-term business plan. Having a solid plan allowed me to define my business, outline my products and services, create my marketing strategy (including target audience and geography) and develop a financial plan. It also helped me look serious to potential clients, investors and lenders. I learned that it is equally important to seek guidance from subject matter experts who specialize in small business. Most states have small business development centers or branches of the federal Small Business Administration (SBA) office that offer free business counseling and services for both startups and established businesses. Having a relationship with a banker is also essential. You’d be amazed at what your bank has to offer. Whether your business is large or small, a banker can help provide general consultation on ways to help grow your business. While some new businesses don’t initially qualify for lending because of lack of collateral or poor credit history, most banks do offer other business products (like checking accounts), services (like overdraft protection) and tools (like online banking) to help new business owners better run their business. My local bank became a great resource and provided me free tools and information to help me manage my business. For instance, my bank connected me with community agencies specializing in small business development. In fact, this led to a full-time employment opportunity with the NAACP Community Development Resource Center in Richmond, Va., where I was able to pursue my passion for helping individuals and families achieve financial success. Some of the best advice I ever received was to make sure I never comingle my personal and business finances. When you’re just getting started, it’s typical to use your personal accounts for business expenses. However, establishing accounts in the name of your business creates a clearer financial picture, allowing you to more easily track and manage business expenses. It also helps lenders and investors when making decisions regarding financing and investments. Last but certainly not least, make it official. African Americans are infamous for “side hustles,” and finding ways to earn extra income beyond your regular nine-to-five is generally encouraged. If you find yourself with a profitable business venture that is marketable and has the potential for long-term success, go ahead and file the appropriate paperwork to legally establish your business. This could create opportunities to grow your business and increase revenue by providing access to bank and government financing options, as well as other resources. Long story short, over several years my business grew to serve over 100 clients and I was able to sell it and move on to other career aspirations. I know that this success came from careful planning and management and a willingness to seek advice. I also gained quite a few gems of wisdom as a small business owner that continue to benefit me today: Good service breaks down barriers. Follow through on what you promise. Deliver your best. Network and seek guidance – no matter how much you think you know, there is always something new to learn. Regardless of whether you work for a company or are self-employed, leverage the skills you have to capitalize on opportunities. what about the pro Athlete's that sell out /take the money out the hood ?? MARCUS GARVEY "For a rich Negro to marry a poor white is an unpardonable crime and sin; because it simply means the transference of the wealth of the race to another, and the ultimate loss of that wealth to the race. It is logically evident that if the Negro is rich, he gained all or most of his wealth from his race. Therefore, to ignore the opposite s*x of his race and intermarry with another is to commit a crime or sin for which he should never be pardoned by his race.

Irma Overall I feel that a large percentage of governmental and institutional policies and programs enacted today are essentially continuing a legacy of control. This in fact is a legacy many deny even when confronted with surmounting evidence that affirms otherwise. But then again, why admit transgressions when the effort to continue the heritage of oppression endured by people of color subsequently benefits them—the elite proprietors of money, power, and resources within this country. Within this setting they continue to hold the reins of supremacy over the marginalized and less fortunate. Their influence and direction set the rhythm for those on the outside of their inner circle to dance to. They determine who is worthy of their attention and admiration and those who are to be ignored and detested. They determine those who should be considered safe and those who should be seen as dangerous. They have the power to influence the minds of those here and abroad. This is simply a dangerous game of thrones people of color have never seemed to master. Within every game there exists a potential wild card that has the capability to alter the dynamics of a game. A wild card is to be watched by the leaders of the game. All their efforts must be focused to discourage this improbable player from moving from behind to overcome and leader and as a result win. Within this country, Black and Latino males are the impeding wild card. Within this malevolence operation, Black males are particularly at risk of being exposed to noteworthy doses of oppressive measures that are in general experienced by women or other ethnic groups. Oppressive systems and people who operate on the grounds of the systemic social reproduction of racism as Albert Memmi stated, “want distinctions and advantages to be given by birth to those who simply declare themselves by self-decree to be best.” Today as witnessed within the past, the systems within the U.S. were simply created by our country’s forefathers to give advantage to some, but not all. The effects of the seeds and thus vines of oppression that have encased the internal and external surfaces of the U.S. continue to render the minds, hearts, and actions of the world. The world has blindly come to be served the toxic proverbial “Kool-Aid,” and consequently continue the undertaking of condemning, demonizing, and psychologically and physically antagonizing Black males. The character Captain, in the 1967 movie Cool Hand Luke, famously said, “What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate. But I feel that the message that is being sent is quite clear and present. The conversation pertaining to the social and academic well-being of Black males is not only missing, but also insignificant.

@Harry What we are talking about and not complaining about leads towards the vision and mission GOD has bestowed upon you. So do not misread what you are reading, your work to lift the veil from our eyes is at work, there is a movement towards sovereignty, and like parts, gathering one part is becoming more conscious of what has not been done that needs to be done. It is what GOD cherishes the most, “come let us reason together.”
