Today is Winter Solstice for Deists in the Northern Hemisphere and Summer Solstice for Deists in the Southern Hemisphere. Traditionally people in the Northern Hemisphere have celebrated this time of year due to sunshine starting to last longer and the return of spring and the life it brings. It is a renewal of life through the amazing thought provoking and inspiring intelligence and profoundly beautiful design in Nature! Every moment is an opportunity to celebrate life, living, Nature and Nature's Designer. This time of year is a great time to put a special focus on that celebration! Our eighth Deism Podcast is funny, entertaining and educational! Our podcast host Tim Wingate tells in a very amusing and engaging way his encounter at a mall with a man he knew years prior when they both attended the same Christian church. The Christian was on a mission at the mall to witness to the holiday shoppers about "Jesus being the reason for the season." Tim gave him a compact truth and reality based education about the true natural reason for the season! This podcast is loaded with important information Deists and freethinkers can use to educate sincere Christians and get them to appreciate Nature's God and God's gift to them of reason!

It''s just a camo hunting cap, even though I gave up hunting about 20 years ago. But I almost always wear a hat when outdoors, you know, blue eyes and all that.

Carmell,
I just meant my eyes are sensitive to light. I used to have a pair of prescription sunglasses I habitually wore outside. But that had the effect of making my eyes even more sensitive and when they broke one day I was practically blinded by the light. That's when I switched to a hat. It does the job without the adverse effects.
I'm definitely a nature lover and yes, that's why I quit hunting. I used to hunt small game, mostly ducks. I was a member of Ducks Unlimited, and they do more than any other organization to preserve and restore wetlands. But the population of ducks continues to shrink, and I decided that hunting them was unethical in view of that. And they are such beautiful creatures, I can't even imagine shooting one any more.
For men anyway, hunting is a primitive urge. I guess I just finally got civilized.

Catch and release, that's good Charmell. The west coast salmon run is another case in point. With all the obstacles the salmon already face, they still have in addition to run the gauntlet of all those sport fisherman lined up against them.

But fortunately more and more people are practicing catch and release, and more streams are being designated catch and release. What do you fish for?

I can't say I've had that particular feeling Charmell, but I love being on the water. I used to do a lot of canoeing, and after that sailing. Sailing is a great feeling, no motor, just the wind driving you and the swoosh of water down the sides. As far as fishing, I used to do mostly stream fishing for trout. That's a great feeling too, being out in waders right in the middle of the river.

Irma, were you able to listen to the podcast? It's audio only so you might be able to get it without high speed. When Christmas was declared to be on Dec. 25, that was the date of the winter solstice at the time, under the Julian calendar.

As far as my own belief, I believe in a Creator, because of the evidence I see in Nature. I believe our ability to Reason comes from the Creator and therefor the Creator approves my use of Reason. I can use my Reason to accept or reject individual teachings in the Bible or other scriptures. So I accept the teaching that Man is created in God's image, but reject the doctrine of Hell. I also believe in a Creator because I myself am a creator. I was a programmer, and I recognize that DNA is a program of the Creator.
