
Our first amendments are once again being challenged by the courts. The police departments do not want concerned citizens taking pictures or videotaping them making arrests.
Mannie Garcia, a White House and Senate-credentialed photojournalist took pictures of two police officers as they were arresting two men. Mannie was concerned excessive force might be used and took pictures 30 feet away and moved even further away after the police shined a spotlight on him.
A Department of Justice representative has stated that, “both the location of
Mr. Garcia’s photography, a public street, and the content of his photography, speech alleging government misconduct, lie at the center of the First Amendment.” Read the full article here
