Identify the problem? What is the solution? (1411 hits)

We keep beating the same DEAD HORSE. We know what the problem is; what is next is, how do we fix it?
1. How do we instill pride into today's population?
2. How do we develope a value system(Don't say church, they have failed the community.)
3. What are we going to do about education?
4. How do we teach the youth that EDUCATION IS NECESSARY?
5. How do we teach the youth the need for independence?
6. When will we stop waiting for the white man to fix it and do it themselves?
7. How to instill the desire not to accept handouts?
8 How do we teach them that they have a responsibiliity to their community, the community as a while and to their country. HE CAN ONLY TAKE AWAY FROM YOU THAT which YOU ALLOW HIM TO TAKE.

There is one thing that we have forgotten. Back in the day when it was separate but equal, there were still those in the Black community who didn't try to climb out of the ditch or the gutter or those who tried to make a fast buck. Back then, the community did not try to save those wo didn/t try to save themselves. In otherwords, they did not try to save everybody. The crabs in the bottom of the bucket stayed in the bottom of the bucket. the attitude was "this is the road I am taking. You are welcome to come along just carry your own weight." All who come along the road MUST have the same value system. If not, it won't work. That is what has happened in the Americans of color community.

Some of our ancestors walked across these United States. They carried their own weight. They did not ride on the coattails of the man in front. Those who could not keep up, if they weren't sick, were left behind. They did so with pride because the did not want to impede progress.

Today, the driven ones, the ones who wanted to do better are doing better. The others are complaining. No other culture tryes to save those who do not want to save themselves. We need to perpetuate SUCCESS and those who are willing to help themselves. It was hard enough for us to climb the ladder without carrying dead weight. And that is not forgetting where you came from. That is remembering where you came from and never to go back to that place.YOU CAN'T MAKE A SILK PURSE OUT OF A SOW'S EAR.

every time we do there are those within the camp that are first to yell PEACE but they are the under cover ops that we must rid ourselves of ,,so they will stop tainting our progress ,,

No one really wants the responsibility to aid in dong the solution. Being a leader in the smallest way has much oppression and opposition that many surrender and give up. Now each person is for only for themselves, it still takes unity and it takes work. There is division and dividing of a house it will surely began to fall. It is good to know some still try.

After he rakes O'Reilly over the coals Lawrence O'Donnell in the next segment interviews two young men who were classmates in Jacksonville I believe, both raised by single mothers, one a sophomore at Yale, the other at Harvard.

Maybe more positive news like this might inspire people more?

Identify the problems and find the solution is a step in the right direction. Do you really think that we know what the problem is? Everyone is picking up different thought patterns from their environment. I can remember being programmed to believe that the "Good die young". I had to retrain my mind to react defensive by believing that the Good simply had to learn how to counteract the negative forces. Yes there is evil in the world but we don't always have to be its victim!

Change doesn’t happen by mere idealism, but rather with the concerted effort of others. HIV has become an epidemic impacting the Black community in increasingly disproportionate numbers. The need for responding to this issue has reached the level of urgency. I’m privileged to partner with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in their Second annual “Day of Unity” to end the HIV epidemic in the Black community and bring about a change.

I admit that HIV was not on my issue radar. While health awareness is one of the pillars of our church, there had been a lingering fear of addressing it because of a perceived sensitivity. I didn’t realize the magnitude of this virus until I joined an NAACP faith community focus group to discuss it. I subsequently joined their advisory board to develop the HIV/AIDS manual entitled: The Black Church and HIV: The Social Justice Imperative. This work has been transformative for both our ministry and myself. Our church has enthusiastically embraced this effort with a passion I hadn’t anticipated.

In response to this national effort our church has developed “The Luke Stands” initiative designed to provide education, create awareness, and promote engagement on various social issues that face our community. In 2012 we partnered with the NAACP for the Day of Unity. In an effort to highlight its importance, I personally took an HIV test during the middle of our worship experience. We then tested over 162 individuals in our congregation, many of them waiting well over 2 hours after service to be tested. We now hold a yearly HIV/AIDS Town Hall Meeting combining the voices of local advocates and organizations to talk about awareness and our personal and public responsibilities in this fight. We have partnered with a local HIV treatment facility to assist their clients with much needed personal supplies and support. We have also partnered with the NAACP to host local trainings for pastors and faith leaders on how to take action to end this epidemic. And there is still so much more we all can do with unlimited creative opportunities.

I have come to realize that not dealing with HIV is an act of pastoral and prophetic irresponsibility. HIV is in the church and the church must address it to bring about change! Ending this epidemic is going to take more than just conversation; it’s going to require us to get personally involved. I encourage pastors and members of the faith community to begin by participating in the Day of Unity and join the movement to obtain health equity for all.

David, it seems as if the church is full of sick people. I was recently watching a program where the pastor said that they holy spirit told him that someone in their last stage of cancer was going to be healed, to come forward to the alter with their hands held up. I was surprised to see over fifty Black people approaching the alter. What is going on!
