DAY 05
JANUARY 2014
Santiago del Estero
While the United States are having a deal with extreme cold, Argentinians are suffering with a hot heat wave. Temperatures are being recorded at a 113 degrees in some of Argentina's cities and sections. Power cuts have been put in effect which means many residents are not allowed to run their air-conditioning all day. This may be also a cause of 7 deaths in the region of Santiago where temps way above 100 have the elderly at a great risk of dying from heat exposure. The heat wave has forced many to remain indoors during peak temp hours. According to media sources, some residents have been without power for over two weeks. The recent power saves have prompted protests who are against the power shut offs because of the extremely high temperatures. On New Year's Eve protesters burned debris and blamed the government for mismanagement in handling energy saving power. This recent heat wave is being called the worst recorded in 40 years.
