Yes indeed, I do enjoy having Africa in April and as I recall I was one of it's first attendees years when it was only two or three tables and a few vendors in downtown's Lee's Park. That was 28 years ago, and all changed! It's one of Memphis' most largest cultural festivals and is known world wide. This year's special honors goes to Burkina Faso which is located in West Africa. We'll discover some of their cultural things and take a celebration to their visit in the river city of Memphis, Tennessee.

"Bur..kina Fa..so, .. I can't say dat fast so.. I say it slow."
Dis is a country of Africa and Memphis is saluting it wit AFRICA IN APRIL. The President of Burkina is Blaise Comparore. He has been in office since 1987. Dis country usted to be called Upper Volta but gat a new name in 1984 and dat name was Burkina Faso. Tha' peoples of dis country is mostly warriors and generate from tribes of long ago in Africa. Theys known as generous folks and of mild natures. "I don't thank theys have a problem saying Burkina since theys can say it fast so.. Thank y'all very murch.

Stages, after stages, music, performers, dancers, and free lancers... food, vendors, babies and all them peoples come for ev'where! Why thousands of them flock to Robert Church Park and Beale to hear music, see self expressionists and have some whole clean fun. It's usually some really hot weather and the day's sun brangs it all to a closing. Till next year's Fesitval opens up AFRICA IN APRIL.
