6-Year-Old Nicki Minaj Fan, Miyah Telemaque-Nelson, Loses Battle With Cancer (4542 hits)

Cancer has taken another life this morning and, sadly, it’s that of an innocent little girl named Miyah Telemaque-Nelson. We first heard of Miyah earlier this Spring when the Nicki Minaj fan who’d been diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma five months prior expressed her wish to meet the Black Barbie herself and get one of her pink wigs; hence the #PinkWigForMiyah social media campaign.

Washington Wizards point guard John Wall even got in on the action, posting a photo with the then-five-year-old patient asking everyone to like the photo and encourage Nicki to meet the little survivor, and Nicki Minaj did just that at the end of March.

Now, nine months later, Nicki has posted the photo collage above on Instagram, expressing grief over Miyah’s passing:
“I can’t believe this little angel is gone. When I met her she was recovering. Sending love to her mother and family and John. This is heartbreaking. She was so full of life. #RIPMiyah”

John took the news just as hard. CSN Washington reports the Pro baller had spoken with Miyah as recent as two weeks ago via Facetime and he had been writing her name on his shoes all season. After last night’s double-time victory against the Celtics, he broke down in tears over the little one’s passing, saying:

“This was an emotional game for me. This is for Miyah, one of my close friends who I lost that I met last year and it’s just tough man. To see a little kid who fights their heart for cancer and can’t beat it…this game is for her. My jersey, my shorts I’m going to give to her family. It’s a tough day for me. I really cried today.”

Tonight, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Miyah Telemaque-Nelson. Miyah lost her battle with Burkitt’s Lymphoma this morning, she was six years old. @johnwall met Miyah this past March and started a social campaign to help her meet Nicki Minaj and receive one of her pink wigs. Wall and Miyah kept in touch, facetiming as recently as two weeks ago. Wall will write her name on his shoes in tonight’s game Our thoughts are with Miyah’s family. ...
