The 'Peter Pan Syndrome' affects people who do not want or feel unable to grow up, people with the body of an adult but the mind of a child. The syndrome is not currently considered a psychopathology. However, an increasingly larger number of adults are presenting emotionally immature behaviors in Western society. It usually affects dependent people who have been overprotected by their families and haven’t developed the necessary skills to confront life.” The ‘Peter Pans’ of present society “see the adult world as very problematic and glorify adolescence, which is why they want to stay in that state of privilege.” http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/...

Ms. Helen, The Peter Pan syndrome is not applicable to Black Americans because we don’t have our own country as yet. We must first be a free in a country of our own to have the Peter Pan syndrome. If you think analytically and reason rationally you will see for yourself that the Peter Pan syndrome doesn’t affect ignorant and poor people like Black Americans.

I find also Helen this is true with those who return after growing up to have a need to thrive necessary fulfillment to return to innocence. Often, having a childlike nature causes them very little worry and creates a dependency of being young where problems are not troublesome in addition, they are somehow associated with children of God whom they surrender God every care, and everything in their lives .

As a child, I always wanted to grow up and be an adult but my older sister, after seeing the peter pan story on television, decided that she never wanted to grow up. The fact that she thought she was going to live happy ever after with her husband, caused her to suffer mental illness after getting a divorce.

I don't look at Peter Pan syndrome as the fault of overprotective parents, but rather abusive parents (parents who are verbally and/or physically abusive towards their children). Take Michael Jackson for instance, Micheal didn't really have a childhood. His father Joe Jackson forced Micheal to work to the bone. Micheal spent his childhood performing and not being able to do things other children got to do. He missed out on playing at parks, riding bikes, and things like that. A normal childhood was taken from him which is why he ended up the way he did.

I know that I’m taking this blog post off subject but I just watched a religious program on television that request money to help starving African Children. I guess I’ve developed an addiction to watching the word network on television because like always I get disappointed when I see on Xmas that the poor children in Africa are starving. These children are Christians and the only changes I’ve seen in fifty years is that they now are wearing used clothing sent from America. This has had an enormous effect on my belief system because we are told that God is no respecter of persons.

Sister Lofton, Great post, I took the time out to read the link to have a greater understanding of the topic. The 'Peter Pan Syndrome' affects people who do not want or feel unable to grow up, people with the body of an adult but the mind of a child. The syndrome is not currently considered a psychopathology. However, an increasingly larger number of adults are presenting emotionally immature behaviors in Western society. I have seen that, Thank you again Sister Lofton

A divorce in itself is enough to cause a nervous breakdown depending on the circumstances for the divorce... say your spouse messing around with a family member or BFF.
