Malcolm X Matters: Icon’s Words Still Ring True (4163 hits)

Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., would have been 90 years old today.

As the #BlackLivesMatter movement continues to grow in strength like the perfect storm, the prescient words of Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) slice with laser-sharp precision through the rhetoric of politicians and pundits alike as if he still walked among us.

He was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., and he would have been 90 years old today. We don’t know how long he would have lived had he not been assassinated 50 years ago on Feb. 21, 1965, on the stage of the Audubon Ballroom at Broadway and West 165th Street in New York City. We just know that he was taken from us far too soon. Still, his intense, bespectacled gaze, forefinger resting against his face, remains the prevailing emblem of black rage and resistance. That his legacy has reverberated for decades without the stamp of approval from the U.S. government, without being taught in schools or quoted in Christian churches on Sunday mornings, speaks to the sheer magnitude of the man and the undeniable truth in his message.

Malcolm didn’t tiptoe around diagnosing the illness of white supremacy or pointing out its symptoms in the form of religious terrorism and police brutality. He boldly declared that systemic racism is not baseless conjecture; rather, it is a deeply embedded statement of fact that provides the framework for the United States of America.

Malcolm X loved black people and hated white racism. Today, as dead black bodies continue to fall in U.S. streets from Ohio to New York, a booming prison-industrial complex continues to scour street corners for prey and a corrupt political system continues to placate black citizens with a blurry carbon copy of equality, his words in a 1964 letter to the Egyptian Gazette still ring true:

We can never get civil rights in America until our human rights are first restored. We will never be recognized as citizens there until we are first recognized as humans. ... The American “system” (political, economic and social) was produced from the enslavement of the black man, and this present “system” is capable only of perpetuating that enslavement.

It is often said that revolution is for the young; this was true of Malcolm. Though he looms larger than life, he was 27 years old when he began preaching at Muhammad’s Temple No. 7 in Harlem and only 39 years old when at least seven bullets left him gasping for his final breaths mere moments after greeting a crowd with “As-Salaam-Alaikum.

Peace be unto you.

And when he said peace, he also meant freedom because he taught us that there is no way to be at peace without it.

In his riveting and iconic eulogy, activist and actor Ossie Davis declared Malcolm to be our “shining black prince.” What is less often quoted is that Davis also said that Harlem’s black community—“beleaguered, unfortunate, but nonetheless proud”—had never had a “braver, more gallant, young champion” than Malcolm X. And it is that same bravery that propels a movement from city to city today.

Many of us know the myth and the legend of Malcolm X. Here, The Root takes a look at the young man in action, putting on for his city and for his people, in these rarely seen clips.

1. Malcolm X “City Desk” interview, March 17, 1963:

Here’s Malcolm X on slavery stealing black identity as well as the enrollment of James Meredith into the University of Mississippi: “It’s a farce; it’s hypocrisy. Because if it’s right for one Negro to be forced into that university then every Negro in the state of Mississippi who is qualified has the same right to go to that university. And if the government is not ready and willing to enforce the right of every Negro in the state of Mississippi, then it’s only hypocrisy to pretend they are for justice by pushing one Negro in and blowing it up all over the world to make it look like they’re solving the problem when millions of black people in that state are going to segregated schools and getting an inferior education.”

2. Malcolm X during an undated ABC interview on the importance of being black:

“The word ‘Negro’ is a term that was made up by the white man himself during slavery. No right-thinking black man in America will accept it as a term to apply to himself. If the white man, no matter how dark he gets, still regards himself as a white man, then our people, no matter how light we get, still regard ourselves as black people. If it’s good enough for them to be white, then it’s better for us to be black.”

3. Malcolm X speaks in Los Angeles May 5, 1962, at the memorial service for Ronald Stokes, an NOI member killed by the Los Angeles Police Department:

“[Black people] should shock the white man by working together in unity. Despite religious, political, economic, or educational or social differences. Let us remember that we’re not brutalized because we’re Baptist. We’re not brutalized because we’re Methodist. We’re not brutalized because we’re Muslims. We’re not brutalized because we’re Catholic. We’re brutalized because we’re black people in America.”

This speech is also when Malcolm asked the powerful, rhetorical question: “Who taught you to hate yourself?”

4. Malcolm X debates civil rights leader and March on Washington architect Bayard Rustin on the need for self-determination for black America:

“Today the black man, according to the government economist, has spending power of $20 billion per year. We feel that with the black man spending $20 billion per year, not creating any businesses, not creating any industry, not creating any job opportunities for his own kind, he’s not in a moral position to point the finger at the white man and say that he’s discriminating against him for not giving him a job in factories that he himself set up. If the black man has $20 billion and these so-called Negroes are such geniuses that they can integrate white restaurants and white factories and force themselves into that which the white man has set up, they should use that same ingenuity to show the black people how to pool our wealth and set up something of our own.”

In response to Rustin’s criticism of the NOI for organizing in the streets of Harlem, Malcolm responded, “You can reach more people in the street who want to change than you can in the bourgeoisie society, the bourgeoisie church and the bourgeoisie circles.”

5. Malcolm X on voting:

“I wouldn’t suggest that they vote for any party or either party. I would suggest that the so-called Negroes become politically mature, realize the power that they hold in the field of politics. Once the person realizes that the Negro is awakened to the power that he holds, then that person will approach that Negro on a more intelligent plane. As it is right now, most of the Negro leaders sell out to the white politicians for crumbs, and a political awakening among Negroes will make it impossible for the present Negro leaders to sell our people out as they’ve been doing in the past.”

Malcolm X Matters: Icon’s Words Still Ring True

Subject?

---- icon
1. a painting of Jesus Christ or another holy figure, typically in a traditional style on wood, venerated and used as an aid to devotion in the Byzantine and other Eastern Churches.

An icon (from Greek εἰκών eikōn "image") is generally a flat panel painting depicting Jesus Christ, Mary, saints and/or angels, which is venerated among Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and in certain Eastern Catholic Churches.

and the 'blackHebrewIsraelite' writes.....

ROBERT, Maybe I can get your attention over here....

This Week Malcolm X Would Have Been 90 Years Old

SUBJECT title ???? that is the FIRST LIE ---- TITLE and SUBJECT...
What is the LIE in the title, let’s do the research and the math Malcolm X Born May 19, 1925 – 2015= 90 ROBERT, the numbers don’t LIE you Islamic CLOWN.

YOUR WORDS: No Muslim would make such a nonbelieving statement.....
Now you want to cover up your BS and hide behind the sheets of your faith, NO CLOWN, on this LIE, you will stand alone and face these FACTS.

YOUR WORDS: had the NOI not KILLED AlHajj AbdulMaleek AsShabazz in 1965

It is interesting that you believe that NOI KILLED AlHajj AbdulMaleek AsShabazz in 1965.
So, you do believe that someone was afraid of Malcolm X and you put it on the NOI… PROOF IT? Back up your bold statement with research and not just with your Islamic clown car logic.

YOUR WORDS:"malcolmX 1950-1963---NEVER did anything for America --- he was the voice of Our Father Elijah Muhammad

Now you are contradicting yourself in the same sentence. First you say Brother Malcolm NEVER did anything for America but yet you said he was the voice of Our Father Elijah Muhammad, Robert, in your mind that is nothing! As that voice of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad, wasn’t that something to credit, highly esteemed Brother in the cabinet of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad with but yet you are trying to dishonor, discredit and belittle Malcolm X, in the same brethe, Why are you trying to do that when history tells a different account of his loyalty at this point in history?

YOUR WORDS: malcolmX 1950-1963---NEVER built anything in America

Now history dictates that Brother Malcolm was building The Nation of Islam since his arrival in 1952 and the question was.. Is the NOI ready for two leaders with his effort to dramatically increased membership into The Nation?

How could you sit there with a straight face and say that Malcolm X NEVER built anything in America, you LYING clown you, when the enrollment of Brothers and Sisters was gaining as a popular movement of self-awareness never before witnessed in the history of NOI. STOP THAT LIE RIGHT NOW…

YOUR WORDS: malcolmX 1950-1963---NEVER had an Original Mind---his MIND was the MIND of Our Father Elijah Muhammad"

When Malcolm came back from Mecca and saw what The Honorable Elijah Muhammad was calling the White Devil worshiping along with others in Islam, Malcolm came back with a thought or two of his own and not of the Father.

You said that: “had the NOI not KILLED AlHajj AbdulMaleek AsShabazz in 1965” in that statement alone says it all. Who gave the order to let two Black Men through security with weapons to complete this deed in The Audubon Ballroom, at 3:10 pm, 14th day of February? Somebody was very afraid of Malcolm X.

Stop contradicting yourself because that is what a doodle minded clown does when he is LYING. Remember in 1964 when Malcolm went to Makkah and saw the beauty of the unity of humanity, he embraces true Islam, in 1965 a year later Malik El-Shabazz was no more. Somebody was very afraid.

You Can’t Be A Black Man In America Not Have A Criminal Record

Doctor Martin Luther King has been to jail, James Famer has been to jail. Why, you can’t name a Black man in this country, who is sick and tired from the hell that he is catching, who has not been to jail. Look, they put Moses in jail, they put Daniel in jail, they put Jesus in jail why, you have not got a man in the Holy Bible that was not put in jail when they started to speak out against the exportation and oppression.

They charge Jesus with sedition, they said that he was against Cesar, they said that was discrimination because he told his disciples to go not the ways of the gentiles but rather go to the lost sheep. He discriminated, don’t go near the gentiles but go to the lost sheep, go to the oppressed, go to the downtrodden, go to the exploited, go to the people who don’t know who they are, who are lost from the knowledge of themselves and go to the strangers, in a land that is not theirs, go to those people. Go to the slaves, go to the second class citizens, go to those that are suffering from the brunt of Caesar’s brutality. If Jesus was here in America today, he would say, he would not be going to the white man, the white man is the oppressor. Jesus would be going to the oppressed, he would be going to the humble, he would be going to the lowly, he would be going to the rejected, the despised, the hated, Jesus would be going to the so-called Negro.

To have once been a criminal there is no disgrace, to remain a criminal is the disgrace. I was formerly a criminal, I formerly was in prison, I am not ashamed of that. You can never use that over my head because you are using the wrong stick, I don’t feel that stick. I went to prison believing in men like Sam Yordy, I went to prison trusting in men like Sam Yordy. I went to prison following the philosophy of men like Sam Yordy but since I have been following the philosophy of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad, I have been reformed and that is more than Sam Yordy and Chief Parker and all those other white politicians that been able to do to the inmates of this state. They should give Mr. Muhammad credit for reforming and rehabilitating men who they have failed to reform and rehabilitate.

This are just a few words that I found, that I wanted to share of Malcolm X speaks in Los Angeles May 5, 1962, at the memorial service for Ronald Stokes, an NOI member killed by the Los Angeles Police Department:

I invite you to view all five Interviews and speech of Malcolm X on this blog.

Taking over from the organization's founder, Elijah Muhammad helmed the Nation of Islam during a period of limited growth. Malcolm X's arrival in 1952 ushered in a time of dramatically increased membership and his significant national profile. The only question was: could the Nation of Islam have two leaders?

Beginnings

A traveling silk seller named W.D. Fard appeared in the Detroit ghetto on July 4, 1930. Fard said he had come from Mecca, and he proclaimed a new belief, a variant of traditional Islam. God was black, Fard taught, and so was the first man created in His image some 66 trillion years ago. The world was run by 24 black scientists; a rogue scientist created the white race, and these devils were given dominion over the earth for 6,000 years. According to Fard, their time would be up in the 20th century, so the black man needed to create a separate Nation of Islam within an America run by whites.

The Messenger

In 1931 Fard established the first Nation of Islam temple in Detroit. Imprisoned for a time, he vanished in 1934. This left the Nation in need of a new leader. The man who emerged was born Elijah Poole in 1897 in rural Georgia. Like Malcolm X's father Earl, Poole left Georgia and came north in search of opportunity and to escape Southern racism. He met Fard and one day heard from him that Fard was in fact Allah; or more precisely, the latest in a series of Allahs. Re-named Elijah Muhammad and referred to him as God's Messenger, Poole established a new temple in Chicago, the city that would become the Nation of Islam's headquarters. Pale and wiry, Elijah Muhammad ate only once during his 18-hour days. He preached in the worst parts of town, drawing blacks with a message that mixed racial pride, hatred of the white devil, and the need for economic self-sufficiency. Islam, in Muhammad's words, gave "the so-called American Negro...that qualification that he can feel proud and does not feel ashamed to be called a black man."

The Movement

Operating from a former animal hospital, the Nation had only a handful of temples and a few hundred members when Malcolm X joined in 1952. But with Elijah Muhammad's blessing, Malcolm helped the Nation of Islam dramatically raise its profile. His message of personal pride and economic self-reliance was attractive to many blacks, as was the notion that they did not need any favors from white America. The Nation of Islam set up its own schools, stores, and restaurants; men learned history and religion, while women were taught nutrition and child rearing. Strict discipline and distinctive uniforms helped set members apart. The Muhammad Speaks newspaper, created by Malcolm X, spread the Messenger's teachings.

The Rift

Elijah Muhammad had encouraged Malcolm in his ministry, appointing him the Nation of Islam's national representative. "I want you to be well known," Muhammad said, because "it will make me well known." But "people get jealous of public figures," the Messenger warned, and as Malcolm increasingly became the Nation of Islam's public face, some sought to prevent him from becoming Elijah Muhammad's heir. Tensions between the two men grew; Malcolm chafed at the Nation's cautious response to the shooting of Los Angeles Temple secretary Ronald Stokes in 1962, and became unnerved by repeated reports of the Messenger's adulteries. For his part, Elijah Muhammad reacted angrily to Malcolm's comments on the assassination of President Kennedy and forbade him to teach or speak to the press for 90 days.

Cassius Clay

In early 1964, during his "silencing," Malcolm and his family spent a week at Cassius Clay's compound in Miami. The boxer, who was preparing to fight heavily favored Sonny Liston for the heavyweight championship of the world, had been visiting Muslim temples for a couple of years and sought Malcolm's spiritual guidance. Malcolm offered to convince Clay to join the Nation of Islam in exchange for Malcolm's reinstatement, but the Nation refused. Then, after Clay won the fight, Elijah Muhammad officially enrolled him into the Nation of Islam and re-named him Muhammad Ali at the Nation of Islam's annual convention to which Malcolm was not invited. Soon Malcolm broke with the organization that had made him a Muslim. He formed his own group, while the Messenger's loyalists, including Malcolm's brother Philbert, denounced him. Less than a year later he was dead, gunned down by members of the Nation of Islam. Elijah Muhammad would always disclaim any responsibility for the murder.

Robert, never tell anyone again that Malcolm X never did anything or made, or build anything for Black Americans again. History remembers Malcolm X who became AlHajj AbdulMaleek AsShabazz for what great things he did for Black American's and NOI.

invite you to view all five Interviews and speech of Malcolm X on this blog. Have you seen one of these speeches of Malcolm's yet?

Was it NOT TRUE that Malcolm and Malik El-Shabazz is the same man?

Was it NOT TRUE that Malcolm X broke away from the Nation of Islam and forms the Muslim Mosque, Inc., 1964 and Travels to Makkah and Africa as Malik El-Shabazz?

Was it NOT TRUE that Malcolm X now known as and became AlHajj AbdulMaleek AsShabazz was assassinated February 21) Right after beginning an address at the Audubon Ballroom, at 3:10 pm, he is shot several times...he is pronounced dead on arrival at Vanderbilt Clinic, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.... was the same man?

If the answer to these three questions is “YES!!!” then you cannot separate this one man into TWO. If the answer is NO, these are two different physical Brothers just because his earlier interviews and speeches is Malcolm X with a clean look, then you are delusional, losing your mind, jump out of that clown car and stop this BS NOW!

This only leaves me and the readership of Black In America, with only one conclusion Robert that you have not seen any of these videos up for discussion and all that you are doing right now is trolling from the clown car with the purpose of camouflaging your previous LIES that I BUSTED YOU ON. Malcolm X Matters: Icon’s Words Still Ring True

SUBJECT?

AGAIN, Facts are REALITY

and the REALITY is that NONE, NONE of the videos above are of Al Hajj AbdulMaleek AsShabazz!

your 'blackHebrewIsraelite' comments PROVE my thought......

"... Malcolm X broke away from the Nation of Islam and forms the Muslim Mosque..........Travels to Makkah and Africa as Malik El-Shabazz...This only leaves me and the readership of Black In America...Somebody was afraid of two powerful Black Nations in America?............"

malcolmx WAS --FACT -- the mouth without a brain of the Racistly Ignorant NOI
malcolmx WAS -- your FACT -- Malcolm X broke away from the Nation of Islam

AbdulMaleek AsShabazz --your FACT formed an Islaamic Organization in New York City

AbdulMaleek AsShabazz -- FACT --- then was Killed by the Racistly Ignorant NOI

FACTUAL PROOF malcolmx and AbdulMaleek AsShabazz were TWO different Men

1. FACT - noi was a Racist Organization; spewing fantasy 'blackGot' Nonsense

---- Muslim Mosque Inc. is an Islaamic Organization that In August 1964, the Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs awarded 20 scholarships to permit young MMI members to study at Al-Azhar University tuition-free. Also in August, MMI was admitted to the Islamic Federation of the United States and Canada. The following month the World Islamic League offered 15 scholarships through MMI for study at the Islamic University of Madinah.

2. FACT - malcomx was ALWAYS clean shaven
3. FACT - AbdulMaleek AsShabazz ALWAYS had a beard
4. FACT - 'your Videos' show a shaven noi member NOT the Islaamic AbdulMaleek AsShabazz
5. FACT - 'your Videos' CONTENT is 'blackWhite' American RACIST nonsense OR noi malcolmx JUNK
6. FACT - speech of AbdulMaleek AsShabazz is AlQur'aan and the Sunnah of Mohamed(saw) inspired.....

ps--

What is YOUR "Black Nations in America"?

Is that LIKE your brother harry, the 68 IQ Retardant wants.....?

and what is; "This only leaves me and the readership of Black In America"

----- NO BIA reader believes your 'blackHebrewIsraelite' Misconception of malcolmx; as ICON--- is True.....

I only READ your comments and your 'whiteMan' at BIA comments......LYING Misconception....

********

Your SUBJECT might have as well been Titled ---- "deacons Icon, Theory of Relativity"

You know MORE about the Theory of Relativity than SUBJECT ... malcolmx OR AbdulMaleek AsShabazz

The Stereotype of the American that calls self 'black' is that of an Ignorant Uneducated person; that has little idea that they are a joke......and know NOTHING>.............

ps. malcolmx NEVER wore facial hair --

a blogger can maintain his/her subject and debate all commentators

--- You can NOT answer any of my FACTS, cause you do NOT know the Subject.
