The bell tolls of Big Ben will be turned off and silenced as the tall tower clock has aged to old and requires a clock face lift. The clock will begin a makeover beginning in January 2017. It's a project that will take considerable re-haul of Ben's functions since it's been losing a few minutes and also additions of bathrooms that's in need of updating to"modern times".
The precision of the clock will have some modern updates added as well; including a digital led program that will improve timing to precision. The large bell will take on healing to cracks and wear and, perhaps a long needed a great polished massage job. The clock has operated a long life of 150 years, and the project may take less time to repair, but in the three months time designated the face may have Big Ben singing a new tone to a longer future for generations and another century and a half. The projection cost may run into the billions.
