The bulk of the Hyatt collection is currently archived at the UCLA Center for the Comparative Study of Folklore and Mythology. Rev Hyatt was a collector of folk beliefs, customs, and superstitions. A collector of folk beliefs, customs, and superstitions collection of raw data collected during the 1930's throughout the coastal states from New York City to New Orleans. All but one of his 1,606 informants was black. He paid his informants five dollars each (1930 $5 valued at $100) for any knowledge they gave. He interrogated his informants about the identity of spiritual healer; Oddly enough it seemed that he was using them to find out where the gifted spiritual healers were, and if they were still alive. Look at his photo, he must have been wearing a disguise (lol) He made millions from the sale of his book to Whites.
