DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL PLATFORM COMMITTEE ADVANCES PARTY’S MOST PROGRESSIVE, INCLUSIVE AND AMBITIOUS PLATFORM DRAFT IN ITS HISTORY
Convention Delegates to Review Document Reflecting a Diverse, United Party in the Fight for an America That Is “Stronger Together”
PHILADELPHIA – The Democratic National Convention Committee’s Platform Committee has advanced the most progressive, inclusive and ambitious platform in the Democratic Party’s history. It will be presented to Convention delegates for ratification in Philadelphia the week of July 25.
The Democratic Party came together at the Platform Committee meeting in Orlando, July 8-9, to further strengthen the document produced by the Platform Drafting Committee in St. Louis. It reflects hours of robust debate, in-person testimony to the Democratic Platform Drafting Committee from 114 activists, policy experts, practitioners, and input through online and video testimony from ordinary Americans from all across the country. Comprised of representatives from the DNC, the Clinton and Sanders campaigns, the platform committee worked together to put forward what represents a covenant of our Party’s collective values, based on issues and progressive policy proposals both Secretary Clinton and Senator Sanders have championed, and the concerns of the American people.
"Reflecting our commitment to not only find common ground, but to seek higher ground, this platform contains multiple points of compromise between Secretary Clinton and Senator Sanders," said DNCC CEO Rev. Leah D. Daughtry, "as well as the issues they both have championed, such as: a historic and aggressive plan to address climate change, making America the clean energy superpower of the 21st century; a commitment to create millions of good-paying jobs; increasing the minimum wage; and a clear, rigorous test for judging all trade deals, which says any and all trade deals must protect American jobs, raise incomes for American workers and strengthen our national security. "
“Based on the Party's core values and the belief that we are stronger as a country when we work together and everyone has a role to play in building the future, the platform draft puts forward a bold vision and specific proposals to address the challenges we face today and a progressive blueprint for our country's future," said DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Florida). "We are proud to present this platform to our Convention delegates and we believe these are the values that will win in November."
The platform addresses issues and topics under 13 key themes: Raise Incomes and Restore Economic Security; Create Good Paying Jobs; Fight for Economic Fairness and Against Income Inequality; Bring Americans Together and Remove Barriers to Create Ladders of Opportunity; Protect Voting Rights, Fix Our Campaign Finance System and Restore Our Democracy; Combat Climate Change, Build a Clean Energy Economy, and Secure Environmental Justice; Provide Quality and Affordable Education; Ensure the Health and Safety of All Americans; Principled Leadership; Support Our Troops and Keep Faith With Our Veterans; Confront Global Threats; Protect Our Values, and; A Leader in the World.
